Blown engine

So my f10 m5 with 20k miles on it just blown its engine during track day, only did 2 laps, and no temperature warning/is at normal temperature. Suddenly the engine just stalled white smoke popping from the hood, and viewers said there was large flame coming out of the exhaust, oil leaks under the car and in the engine, water was mixing with oil in the engine.

Possible cause is i did a bootmod3 ots stage 2 tune(i have read several blown engines with this tune in the thread) where before i did a harsher track day with no problems. Another possible cause told by my mechanic is because the installation of new aftermarket intercoolers(which was installed in the previous track day without any problems) which caused a leak or sucking of coolant/water into the engine. Or any other possible leak from whatever its from. My mechanic did say that there was a hint of white smoke from exhaust when i am accelerating hard, was checked and said no problems.

Now I need a new engine as I believe it was beyond repair. Any recommendation where to buy one? I stumbled upon ghassan automotive doing refurbished/remanufactured s63 engine. Any one knows them?

Any information/input is highly appreciated for this shit situation i am in.

Gone too soon, sorry to hear you had to go through this. Mine spun a bearing taking wife to dinner for her birthday. I bought my engine from @rkautowerks. I have their stock rebuild for over 2 years and 20k+ miles now. I think I may need new injectors now and hindsight being 20/20 I should have had them done while the engine was being replaced but that is not on RK at all. The folks there are BMW enthusiast, Raza the owner comes from an automotive engineering career and is one of the most customer service centric businesses owners that I have ever met.

If you mess with Ghassan after reading up on him on this Forum, good luck to you.

RK has great follow up and review from everyone I've talked to. That's who I'll use. I'm just waiting for mine to pop but it seems to keep going. I'm at 160k miles on the stock engine.

Ghassan auto or whatever it's called screwed me back in the day on an N54 engine for my 335i , paying thousands of dollars I would go with a well ranked building especially for an S63 . It sucks your engine is gone at such low mileage but its a situation where it leaves with you a paper weight and there's nothing you can do but swing the cash to get it back on the road , it is a good time to build it and make it stronger though I would try That place is Texas who build these on the daily . Good luck !

You will have no coolant in your charge cooler reservoir. Also, charge coolers coolant circuit is a low pressure. Mixture of water and oil might be an aftermath, sorry for your loss.

What was your oil grade?

Yup, that was the case, no coolant left, but the temperature indicator was normal. Oil was shell 5/30w

Tested the intercoolers, no defect from the check. Still flabergasted on where the leak came from and no indicator(temps or low coolant) prior to the accident

That is the cause 5w30, it couldn't take the beating specially in a hot weather. The coolant came from cracked cylinder block but I don't think its the cause.

5w-40 is recommended as well, which has better Viscosity and Shear but shit happens specially that your car is tuned.

How many Miles or KM was on it (the oil)?

There are too many things that could have gone wrong especially with tune and aftermarket parts. If you have trusted mechanic who would do your engine swap, asked them to open the engine and look what could have happened. I don't believe is oil issue 5w30 is spec's oil by BMW and shouldn't have caused it. Again no one here can pin point what exactly caused it without you opening the engine.

Agree that many thing could have caused the issue.

BMW recommended that oil for their stock power(still blow up on stock) not a 100+ hp over stock, 5-W30 has a viscosity of something around 11 by the time he finished his 2nd lap that number dropped. Most blown up engine were running either 0-W30 or 5-W30.

Also you are right unless he open his engine all he will have is speculation.

No sorry I was asking the guy with 160k miles if he was stock or if he had any mods.
Yes I'm modded up. Stage 2, downpipes, etc. no tracking but the car gets used daily. I run 5W/40 and change at a 4-5k interval.

I also run a blackstone report 2-3x's per year. What's interesting is that the report always shows my 5W/40 viscosity is okay but on the bottom range of the envelope for a 5W/40 oil weight. Basically it's telling me that I could possibly run 5W/50 to achieve 5W/40.

A M specialist is currently installing ACL upgrade rod bearings and a new oil pump. He recommended to run 5w50, so I opted for Motul Sport 5w50 this time, instead of Ravenol RUP 5w40. I will post pics of the original bearing shells after I picked up the car next week.
