New Porsche Spyder

I finally caved and got a car with less than 400 hp, and what I didn't know the Spyder has 10 less HP than the GT4 and they same gear box and 991S motor. I've been looking for a M4 convertible replacement, and after driving this car five miles I was freaking sold. The sports exhaust and the short shifting tranny is to die for veryh visceral.

Great handling, and loves the curve, and being 2900 lbs makes all the difference. Freaking hard car to find less than 11 for sales in the country, and 800 in the US with 2500 worldwide. Too bad Porsche will not drop a RS motor in this thing because it's mid-engine, but it would be a widow maker for sure. Vic you have to drive one ......think there is one in Laguna Beach!

For sure. A year ago I would have never bought one of these, but as I said it's actually one of the best driver feel cars I have driven. The sound is sick!

I've owned a lot of cars, but the Boxster is one of the best visceral driving experience cars I've ever owned.

Congrats to you! She's a beauty!

Henry nice addition/replacement. Ill be honest, I saw a white one the other day and was impressed with its form on the street. Add the spyder part and the car is real a transformer. And while M6Coupe does have a point that I like cars over 500hp its not really a benchmark but more just the way my purchases have fallen as of late.

But lets not forget just a few years back I had a 991 C4S and a 991 GT3, both with less than 500 hp and enjoyed each incredibly. I guess that tells you something, if its Porsche (I did have the M4 too but tuned it over 500 SAE) then it doesnt need just hp and tq because driveability, chassis feel, handling, steering, etc. all are incredible in these cars and no doubt in the Spyder too.

Ok Ill drive one this weekend

EDIT: whats the difference between your car and the GTS version of the 718?

The Spyder has the 991S motor detuned slightly off thr GT4 with 10 less HP. Also has 991S wheels 20" 11.5 in the rears, and GT4 gearbox. Basically it has 991S guts in a 2900 lbs car. 800 were sent to the US, and about 2800 worldwide. Very hard to find the damn things .......everything I found one it was sold. Only thing that sucks all used ones trade above MSRP. This and the RS are keepers for me long term as I enjoy the experience, and the Spyder for the little seat time was a blast. Pick it up next week on my way to Prague so I left it with the dealer.

Edit, so I pulled this from your link:

Quote:
The Base-level Boxster is powered by a 2.7L flat-6-cylinder engine that makes 265 horsepower. The S gets a 3.4L version of the flat-six, tuned to make 315 horsepower. The GTS is also powered by a 3.4L, though thanks partially to a standard sport exhaust, the GTS makes 330 horsepower. The top of the line Boxster Spyder is powered by a 375 horsepower 3.8L flat-six, borrowed from the 911. Two transmissions are available: a 6-speed manual is standard and PDK 7-speed dual clutch transmission is optional on all four models.
So the 375 hp model is more powerful than the GTS or the S? Whats the 375 hp model called?

to this day my boxster s was still the best handling car i've owned (in stock form). People bash these things all day, 99% have never been behind the wheel on a twisty let alone a track.

I would have never known until I started researching the car. It drives better than my old 991S. Clearly it's old school less than 3000 lbs which provides great driver feel. Also minus being over powered provides more than optiomal performance, and it's clearly a keeper in my book. I'm happy I found the spec I wanted and a car with only 4000 miles.

Just sucks there's no cars available below the original MSRP!

Thanks guys, I was reading too fast and assumed that all the verts were Spyders and that the top of the line had a different name LOL

I said I would not have the top up at all ........it looks killer with the top down, and the lines are so clean it was made to drive with the top always down in my view. I like the fact they put 20" by 11.5 in the rears!
