Which would you buy: 991.2 GT3 vs. R8 RWS vs. McLaren 570s
Gentlemen,
I'm considering pulling the trigger on a new car in the coming month and splurging a bit. I've narrowed it down to three. I don't want to tip my hand and show which way I'm leaning since I want this to be as unbiased as possible but I'm looking for opinions to either validate where I stand or open me up to new possibilities. Options are: 1// NEW 991.2 GT3. Assume it's an MSRP allocation and no problem securing. 2// NEW 2018 R8 RWS (this is the RWD version), also assume an allocation and no mark-up 3// USED 2017 McLaren 570s. Assume decent mileage (< 5k) but preowned nonetheless Which would you take as a weekend toy and occasional track car (2-3 times a year). Assume you're keeping it for 4+ years. Yes it's a bit ridiculous to base this on an internet poll but I'm just looking for a sanity check.

I have never driven any of those, and probably never will, so take my opinion with a huge amount of salt.
Being the massive 911 fan I am, and being of the old school, it has to be the 911 for me. As an engineering exercise, the 570 is obviously better, but the n/a flat 6 scream of the GT3, and the history behind it make the 911 a clear winner for me. As for the R8, it has never hold any appeal for me, so that's not even in contention. |

I'd take the McLaren but only for 1-2 years before swapping out and not loosing much / maybe break even. Longer term, McLaren service would be more than the GT3 and until the aftermarket catches up, things like oil light reset can only be done at a McLaren dealer (or expensive tools).

"Afford" is a relative term and depends on your financial IQ. Almost anyone with a paycheck can qualify for a new non-m bmw. Yet some who can pay cash for one may think they can't "afford" to loose that much on depreciation if they don't have to.

991.2 GT3 with three pedals without a doubt. Optioned with all the alcantara removed from touch points (seats, steering wheel etc).
The manual is going to make it so much more involving as a weekend car with some track duties so that each time you get in it you're rewarded. Watch the Carfection review on it (as well as the one about manual transmissions) and see if it sways you. |

1) 991.2 GT3
2) R8 RWS 3) 570S OP can you get a 2019 GT3 RS allocation, starts at used 570S prices? Take that over all three. Last edited by hellrotm; 07-17-2018 at 04:14 PM.. |

If you're just planning for track usage, MCL.
R8 sounds the best but is best for enjoying on the streets IMO. 991.2 is an awesome car, super light like the MCL but kinda boring. Someone mentioned a used 675LT which would be a great choice, but those are still well over 300k. |

What exactly is boring about a 500hp normally aspirated manual sports car, that revs to 9,000 rpm? That is pure adrenaline. |

I have tried and ultimately failed to find anything less than a $35k markup. At MRSP I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

I'd pick the Porsche built to order. Having exactly what I want; brand new beats the 570S. The Audi isn't really in consideration for me personally.
Trent said it well... Nothing quite like the feel of something new.
