M5 advise please

Hello M5 Owners.

It has been 2 years that i have been driving a F30(335i). my dream car is an M5, and i think i can buy a 2015 now or wait another 2 years and get the 2017 F10(M5). M3 is just small for me since i own a 3 series now. My SA told me to stay away form the M5s and for me to lease a 2018 M550i. I think i really want an M5.
What should i look for in a used M5. I am more interested to buy it from BMW dealer rather than a used lot. And i know that dealer marks it up too for used cars. Is there a way to get it cheaper than what they are asking for? any tips would be super helpful. i want to do my homework before making this decision.

thanks

Vahe

Hello Vahe,

I am new to the forum (long time listener, first time caller here!)
Also, I'm the proud new owner of a 2015 M5, competition package. It was picked up this week and I am so very pleased with my purchase. The car was purchased used from a small dealer in PA.
I lucked out with it having 22K miles and in excellent shape. Oh, and the price was much lower than going to a BMW dealer!

I would go with your dream car, but do your homework. There are some good deals to be had.

I'm looking forward to being a member of the forum!

R.

A 2015 is good since its an LCI car, and the pre-LCI gremlins are pretty much ironed out. For getting the car for less than what your dealer is asking, check the auction values in the Pricing area and use that when negotiating. If trading in a car, never settle on their first offer - there's plenty of room to negotiate what they will give you. I would stick with a CPO car unless you can get a very good and comprehensive 3rd party warranty. Definitely review service history, keeping in mind the dealer will not CPO a car that missed the 1200 mile diff service. I will pay a bit more knowing the car was originally leased from, serviced, and returned to my local dealer, CPO'd, then offered for sale, compared to a non-BMW dealer, but again check the history and make sure for a great warranty should a car not be CPO'd.

Your long term plan of a 2017 in 2 years - 2016 is the last year for the F10 M5 and there's no 2017. The F90 M5 began as a 2018 model, with the Competition Package available in model year 2019.
