Green spark plugs
Changed my plugs. The ones on the drivers side seemed to have some of this green corrosion looking crap. I cant remember which two were the worst but they were on the drivers side. The connectors up in the coils looked ok. Did water or coolant somehomehow get in these spark plug wells?
I didn't have codes before or after. 30k miles. Any ideas? |

^ From leaky turbo coolant pipe hoses probably or a mechanic spilt some a/f while topping up. Those coolant pipes need to be checked regularly.

The turbo lines look almost brand new. All of the coolant reservoirs seem to have proper coolant. Maybe it leaked in the past. Ive only had the car a few thousand miles.
I just wanted to make sure there was no way coolant can leak from the heads on these cars into the spark plugs holes. I know oil can on this design but I wasn't sure about coolant. |

No, I only noticed after i pulled the plugs out. The coils didnt tell much of a story to. Harder to remove but its not like the stuff was all over the coils.

Another thing I wanted to ask was what gap did you set your standard plugs at, they are set at the factory but it's wise to check before you put them in. |

.032
They came pregapped at that and I double checked. The ones I pulled out were also .032. As long as they are all the same, I have read of bmw gapping them all the way down to .028 on spark plugs. And if you want to save yourself some money the bosch ZR5TPP330A has superseded the ZMR5TPP330. It is perfectly fine to use the newer plug. fcpeuro has them for 5.87$ each. Newer and cheaper. |
