Exclamation Attention: iPhone iOS 8.3 causes glitches with Bluetooth and USB

So as some of you can remember, I posted a little while ago that I was having some issues with my Bluetooth connectivity and music playback in my BMW M5. I thought that I had fixed it after I updated the software on my BMW to the latest. However, low and behold after only 1 day of working normally, my Bluetooth started acting glitchey again. Here's my original post (I don't know why the Mods moved it to the Wheel and Tire section though, Lol!)

http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1121033

So I did a long road trip this weekend, driving over 700 miles in my M5 and my music connection failed several times on me this weekend. I would mostly lose my bluetooth connection after playing music on my iPhone6's stored music. After I lost the connection, I can't get it back and the only way is to shut off the car for about 15 minutes and let it clear its memory. Music Apps like Pandora and SoundCloud seem to work fine though. You may be asking, why don't I just use the USB cable? Well I can't. The USB connection is completely not working for me. The cars USB won't recognize the iPhone but it will provide power for it. This leads me to what I discovered today.

After getting really pissed off today on my way back home on my road trip, I decided to do some Googling and I believe I have found the problem. The problem is with Apple iOS 8.3 itself and not the BMW software. It is really because of the new Apple Watch why people are having this problem. I feel like the Mercedes owner who stated: “I could care less about a stupid watch! I have a $104,000 Mercedes that won’t connect to the Bluetooth using OS 8.3! Where oh where is Steve Jobs?"

Here is the article.

http://www.autoconnectedcar.com/2015...r-connections/

For now it appears that there is no fix in sight which really pisses me off. I know I know, first world problems, but still. I like to listen to my B&O. I guess maybe I need to start downloading more music from the internet and storing it on the M5's hard drive. At least the music streaming Apps seem to be working OK for now.

I have similar issues with my 2014. The one other software bug/insanity with apple music app is to skip all the way back to the very first song on my iPhone that starts with the letter 'A'. I pair my via bluetooth or usb cable, select the song and if it happens to start playing without stalling, after a few minutes, the player skips to the song starting from letter 'A'. Apple software quality has well and truly gone down the drain. It is sad and pathetic.

Well, Steve Jobs was good with products but it was during his time that Apple Maps was designed and shipped and what a crapshoot that was! They don't let us change the default but if they do, within a day, most everyone will switch their default mapping app to Google Maps.

All that said, given the state of software and hardware in consumer device category, I think that Apple is still our best bet.

Related question: anyone used Siri in the past year? Been an year or more since I tried it. Was supposedly one of the killer features of iPhone.

I bet it can get annoying. I've had more than my fair share of headaches using android devices with BMW's. Surprisingly, my Note 4 has been working perfectly via bluetooth or hardwired in.

I can even see all my songs on the HUD using bluetooth (in the updated HUD in the 14-15 models and Lollipop). I could only skip songs previously with my android phones.

Funny that you mention this. My Iphone started "skipping" a while back and I thought I was back in the 90's with the CD player......no I know....

This explains a lot. Was seeing some flakiness with bluetooth audio as of late, however it seems be A BIT more stable after deleting the phone pairing and re-pairing. Spotify works for the most part for me, but occasionally it crashes.

FWIW, I'm sure a fix will take care of the issues.

Yeah I tried that too. I deleted the phone from the iDrive and then re-paired. It worked great for about a day and then the problems came back.

Delete the car from the phone aswell, not just the phone from the car.

My Bluetooth is working fine, but for some reason spotify won't work with the cable. I usually use the cable since I like to charge my phone and I can control through the app. Bluetooth is the only way to listen to spotify now.

You have to have the Spotify app open and running in order for it to show up in iDrive. If you exit the app, it disappears from iDrive.

Actually - with the 3.00 update Spotify trashed something and using Spotify via the USB cable w iDrive is NOT working. You'll get a Certificate Error. You can sometimes get Spotify to play...but more often than not I end up fighting the Music app for control. While driving.
Apparently not seen with BT - just USB.
It's a true PITA right now.

Yes, I got that certificate error. Was working just fine before last update (yes I know it needs to be open).

Pretty sure it's a iOS issue. My 14 MDX would drop music in bits and the Blackberry Music Gateway in my 335 as well. This is all recent after updating my iOS to the latest version.

Thanks for confirming that the glitch is reproducible. Let's hope they can fix it in future. Doesn't seem like rocket science at all.

My iphone 6 on 8.3 works fine .. I have made sure I have the latest software in the M5 which I downloaded from BMW and updated through the USB socket. I agree that the USB socket connected to the phone is useless as well so I just use bluetooth all the time

I've been using ios 8.3 on a 6+ without any issues at all.

Also, do you have any Bluetooth headphones paired to the phone? I had a set and it caused a lot of issues until it was removed.
