Cold start removal
I have searched everywhere for a solid answer but found none.
To put it simply, my car is too loud on cold start, I live on a road with street parking only and all neighbours are in close proximity. I don't want to upset anyone and have my car damaged. My question is, is it safe to remove the cold start with the cats still fitted and everything else stock? Thanks |

I can imagine it does, I'm just trying to reduce any chances of having my car damaged. At the moment it's a bit obnoxious and echoes in the street. I don't mind it myself but I really don't want it damaging.

No damage done removing cold start. However, I suggest letting the car idle normally for the 30-60 seconds the cold start would do, and not driving the car hard until fully warmed up.

The cold start's purpose is to warm up the cats faster, so they'll be more effective quicker. The engine itself doesn't benefit from the cold start, so it's safe to remove it.

If the system is in fact part of the automatic ‘choke’ system, which creates a richer air-fuel mix at cold, then this function should not be switched off in the U.K, as your car simply won’t start half the year. |

The cold start does create a richer air-fuel mix, but it’s to warm up the cats faster, as they’re not effective when cold. The car will not stall when cold with the cold start removed. It will still adjust RPMs accordingly, although it’s barely noticeable, even in the cold.

Does this mean that cars with downpipes and no cats have no purpose of for the cold start?

We can remove it very easily.
The purpose of the cold start routine is to bring the cats to operating temperature. On cars with downpipes, we recommend removal. Cold start enrichment and secondary air are two different functions, not necessarily to be defined together. Enrichment from the cold start sequence would be to meet target air fuel ratios, and is separate from the coolant temp based model for injection. On cars with a secondary air pump, additional fuel would be injected to offset an increase in air. With the function turned off, the resulting Mixtures when-cold will still be similar. |

Just put it right into gear and cold start is gone. Just sit and idle in D

idle for 10 to 15 seconds on cold start to circulate oil throughout the engine and drive off gently until it warms up a bit.

Please correct me if i am wrong because I read recommendations of long warm up cycles and i read suggestions that they are redundant and dangerous. I don't think 30 - 60 seconds could be considered long but is 10 to 20 seconds more ideal in the long run. Something worth discussing to see what the experts have to say not that i have anymore input lol. |

-BPM is the only place that could rewrite the code in my car to allow me to finally fully disengage traction control, and the only place that even had any inkling about what my issue could have been.. (it was written to not allow full disengagement from the factory [intentionally]) oh and we deleted the cold start and added 100hp+tq and other goodies hands down best money ive spent on the M5 - tune and coding lots of possibilities and BPM is in the know.. trust me |

What is the cost for cold start removal? Can you also remove the maximum speed limiter? Can this be done remotely? My car is a 2008 specs e60 550i. Thanks! |

My point is, haters gonna hate, so just live life the way you want to and don't bother with the curtain twitchers. If at any point you would like to have the cold start removed, then your best bet is tuning shops like Velocity Tuning in Colchester, DMS in Southampton, Evolve in Milton Keynes..and so on. They do offer ready made tunes for our car over ecu flash and they can do cold start delete, speed limiter removals etc. I think it's possible to do these remotely too. Hope that helps! |
