Estimated Price Drop with release of new M5

Hey guys,

I've been thinking about upgrading my F10 but I thought I might as well as wait until the new M5 gets released. What do you guys think this well effect the prices for the F10 M5's (guessing like six months to a year from now)? Is it worth the waiting?

Thanks,

Most of these cars have lost 50% of value or more already. I have been watching market and it seems that you can get a decent for mid 40s or comp package for 50-60k. I'm not sure how much lower they will go in the next year as the prices and depreciation tend to slow after year 4 and cars are out of warranty

You won?t notice much immediate impact. It already occurred when the G30 came out.

At this point the cars are in the 40-85k range. The new ones are $120k+. I doubt you will see much impact on the used market given how low it already is.

Are you thinking to get a F10, or sell your F10 and get a new F80? I’m little confused on your post since you said you wanna upgrade ‘your’ F10. But then wouldn’t make sense if you wait since your F10 will drop more in 6 months of time.

Well I have an F10 currently. I want to upgrade my 535i to M5. My car has already dropped in value because the G30 5 series have already hit the market for over a year. I know my car's value is somewhere around 26k-28k. I'm just waiting until they officially release the F90 M5 within USA market which will hopefully have more F10 M5 on the market.

I think you'll see a seasonal drop in the northern parts of the country now for the F10 M5. I don't see things changing much when the F90 officially hits the US.

Why not price shop now and go for it if it's a good deal?

From my experience owning the E90 M3, when the F80 came out in 2015, that's when I took my biggest depreciation hit.

It's hard to quantify exactly the hit, but I expect F10 M5s to all even out to $30k range 8-9 years from MY date with pricing differentiated by mileage. Also, G90 M5s are not dime a dozen. Even with initial release you need about 6 to 12 more months after that release to see depreciation start to hit F10s hard. It takes about 9 months from order to delivery, so no F10 owners are selling it their cars right away. You need that supply of F10 owners who are jumping ship to come online.

So basically, what you need to target are 36 month lease end dates for '14, '15 and '16 cars, and consider CPO expiry for 2nd owner cars. Then tack on when you think most of initial batch of G90s will get delivered (I think 12 months from release), then that's when most of the F10 supply will saturate the market.

^good points here

All subject to opinion but the AWD is the only major change IMO. The styling and engine are pretty much the same. If I wasn't leasing my F10, I'd likely still have it. Heck buying another F10 M5 was on my shortlist until I test drove a couple X5///Ms.

Guess my point is I don't see the F90 being a vast improvement over the F10. At least not in the way the F10 was vs the outgoing E60.

might be another 5-10k they already can't move amazing cars as is.

Having had a 2014 LCI, and trying to trade it in on a GTR about 4 months after buying I can tell you the market for F10s was absurd then. Let alone now. I eventually got an M4 but it was appalling the offers I was getting lol

They are amazing cars and to think you can get them for 40-60% off on cars that were likely babied *not many ass holes were buying 110K+ F10 M5s/M6s lol

Whatever price you see one listed its probably 5-10k less that they'd take lol. Because honestly not many of them are moving and there are an abundance of good deals.

You not at the point of just waiting a little longer for a 14 with maybe a few more miles?

Again, I expect F10 M5s to all even out to $30k range 8-9 years from MY date with pricing differentiated by mileage.

We're still 2 years away from 13's and 14s to drop drop to the $30k range, and it appears we're on track.

Of course, there are other factors out there, a recession could really kill the market for example. But I don't think the F10 to G90 transition will be much different from the E60 to F10 transition in terms of pricing. Check in with me in 2020 and let's see if I'm right.

OP, I say if you want to hit the sweet spot on the depreciation curve while still getting a car with lower mileage, wait 12 more months. G90 M5 hasn't even been delivered yet, so, we're still 9 months out from the first delivery if you could order today. Then you need a bunch of F10 owners to start ordering to see pricing take a hit on the F10, so I would say you got another 12 months or so before that depreciation starts to hit hard on the F10, and then pounce on a '14 ZCP.

I’m in the market. Hoping for a dip in the next month or two to take advantage of. I’d love to get one sub 40 if that becomes a possibility in the near term.

a sub-$40 one today will be a car with high mileage (>55k) and/or one with accident history.

I still think if you can wait 12 more months, you can easily pick up 2013 and 2014 models (in the 50k mileage range) in the high $30s.

If you want the best one today for the money, I would buy this one: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1451256
