There is an M5 Board video with Dr.Segler at the M3 talking about the usual time frame for an M5 being 1 and a half years.
The long development time is for full testing of the technology that will be available for the M5 plus usual testing on aerodynamics and cooling.

Even before the 1M , M5 was the highest priority. It will be bringing a lot of firsts , and innovations for an M5 and for the Luxury Performance Sedan segment.
Thanks for the info Scott, that seems a bit more rational. I mean, if we are in the final phases of development, how could we be 1 year away from seeing at unveiled at an autoshow? But knowing we will see a concept in March is very exciting. You mentioned that the production car will follow almost afterwards...how long after will we see the production car?

Just to confirm, You are saying that the first time we see the production F10 M5 won't be in September 2011 @ Frankfurt?

Looks conservative, but so did the E60 and E39. Thats why there are companies like Vorsteiner

E60 was definitely more flamboyant than the E39, but the M5 was never meant to look like a boy racer. Especially given how the F10 is even more of an "executive" car than the previous 5-series, I'm not surprised to see the F10 M5 toned down a bit from the E60 M5.

But this car looks great in white!

Sorry BMW it does nothing for me, I have the E90 M3, this is a blown up one, what a shame, I will have a look at the 2012 Nissan GTR next year.
PS) why wait till september 2011, they could bring that out tomorrow.

The press release will be out soon after Geneva 2011 (for example, the M3 press release came in April 2007). However, the market launch won't be before September 2011 (in Europe).

Best regards,

looks good but as a couple stated above was hoping for it to have a little bit more aggressive lines. Maybe the camo is hiding more then we think.

Exactly. Please remember M3 case 2007:

Concept out at Geneva 3/2007
Press release & details 4/2007
Press test drives summer 2007
Official launch Franfurt 9/2007 & cars at dealer showrooms at the same time!

So M5 will very likely go same way. The car won't be so far away...you might be close to have your own one at your garage next year this time if ordered early

Holy mother of big rear brakes Batman!!! Unfortunately, it looks like B M Vee just can't seem to grasp the concept of "single piston calipers suck on a performance car".

The sept '11 debut seems ridiculous, especially since I'm sure many of us have put off the idea of an e9x m3 for this car.. Although, as said above, this car is going to be a lot of "firsts" for BMW, and the ///M division.

As far as it not being "aggressive" enough, all of the most aggressive pieces are still covered, like the hood, side skirts, front quarter panel where I'm sure some vents, or maybe a gill as on the 1M will go, and the rear bumper and decklid.. This car is going to be mind blowing and I can't wait to finally put an order in sometime next year
