Bootmod3 Tune Questions

Hello M5/Bootmod3 owners. I’m new to the M5 platform and just purchased a BM3 tune. A couple questions if i may...

1. I’ve read on forums I need a battery charger to flash? This is new as when I’ve done a flash on my previous cars GT-R and S4 I didn’t need a battery charger.

2. I live in Washington and we have 92 octane. Would it be safe to run the 93 OTS tune instead of 91. If I do chance it with the 93 OTS tune, is there a knock safety feature that cuts boost or adjust timing?

Thanks in advance.

1. If your battery is good then you don't need a charger.

2. DO NOT use an octane rating which is less than recommended. If anything, always use a higher than recommended octane. This is especially important when running fuel from the US of A.

Personally I wouldn't risk not using a charger, everytime I have spoken or seen a car mapped for the first time they use a charger, its not worth the risk.

Just make sure it flows at 20a when on charge as this is about how much it uses when uploading

use battery charger for first time because it will unlock the DME first...

for octane get OTS 91 octane and use 92 octane... dont do 93 octane and you have 92... or boost your octane up with anything in the market

good luck

Okay. It sounds like using 91 is the way to go. I’m just sad that I’m leaving so much power on the table by not going 93.

i needed a battery charger cause my battery was like 3-4 years old....after replacing battery with a Brand new one i have not once used a charger. Have flashed over 50 times with Zero issues. If u have a new battery u r fine. If u have a battery that is over 3 years old u may need a charger........DME unlock takes 4-5 minutes. Map changing takes about 1.5 minutes....

A friend used Open Flash for the first time and it took 45 mins from start to finish.

Battery charger always reccommended, not worth the risk.

If your voltage drops or something happens electrically wise during programming, you will regret that you didn't use a charger.
The Bootmod program will note to make sure battery voltage is stable.
It is 100% recommended for the initial read out-programming
Software updates occur within 1-2 minutes and do not require a voltage supply.

Throw your JB4 into the trash
Its an item of the past and their support is garbage
Lots of current issues with their recent units

Dumb Question: When flashing hookup the charger to the battery in the rear right? I though I read somewhere, there’s an easier option on the front?
