Maintenance Advise: Dealership or Independent

Almost time to have some general maintenance completed and I was wondering what's best for records and resale value down the road. Taking it to the dealership, or having it completed at a reputable independent shop in town? Both are similar in price, just curious if anyone had experience on how each are viewed. Do people prefer cars that have been to the dealership for everything, or does it even really matter as long as the are completed? Thanks for any feedback in advance.

If it's the same priced then definitely dealer. The best is if you can do it at home. Ie I do all my oil changes at home, filters, spark plugs

Having my service book and i drive BMW stamped with the oil changes, brake fluid, yearly inspections and anything else that may be needed is preferred over here.

They have dropped in price but good examples will always command a premium as there are so many average M5s available.

From new yes as goes for the F90 one that's why I bought mine 4 years old with low miles with proven BMW service history.(eight oil changes)
Buying a fully specced one has it's risks also, the more you have on it there's more chance of something going wrong i.e. steer wheel buzzer,B&O amp, no reported ones with HK,comfort entry, leather dash needing replacing from sun burn etc.The split /fold rear seats are a must as well as the soft close doors.

It may be an idea to change the oil every 10k at a dealer and every 5k yourself. The 10k being less than recommend to keep resale price as high as possible, and 5k for your own peace of mind and save money on double servicing.

I am not sure soft close doors are a must to most people.
