F10 v F90

Hi all

Has anybody made the move from the F10 to the F90? How does the F90 compare?

Had my F10 for 3 years now and fancy a change. Went to a local launch car evening for the F90 and although it does have nice lines, bit more power and 4WD, is it worth the extra cash?!

Cheers

It's worth it if you care about everything but the engine.

But if you care about the engine, it's not worth it.

Just ordered 19' M5 Competition.

After two F10 M5's, I'm looking forward to the F90 M5.

While it somewhat feels like an LCI from an engine and design perspective, the AWD, hp boost and refined interior are huge improvements IMO.

I've loved both of my F10 M5's but getting power to the ground is, and will always be a challenge; AWD brings the M5 in line w/ the competition.

I recently drove my friend's F90 and it's a beast ..... feels like a tuned M5 w/traction.

LOL, yeah man.

I've tried a couple from a dig and it's been a joke .... F10 is a roll car IMO.

The s63tu4 has some significant improvements over the s63tu. Many components I had to upgrade/replace come upgraded in the new motor. It is an evolution on an extremely solid platform, but it is a better base to work from.

That's true, but it's the same exact engine exhaust note with pretty much the same engine characteristics (i.e. same redline). If they had made the Tu4 have an 8,000rpm redline or modified the pulse order to give the motor a different sound or something like that, then that would've been awesome. Yes it's a better platform but it's fundamentally not different which is both a good thing and bad thing depending on ones perspective.

I prefer the look of the F10, the new model is a bit too rounded and soft imho.

Correct - but they won't do a 8K redline as it will require very different turbo sizing. For BMW its about 100% torque at 2.5K RPM... its 'feels fast' that way.

Notable improvements:

1. Oil sump
2. > 50% fuel pressure (more tuning potential)
3. Combustion shape (piston crown) to accommodate the improved injection
4. Serviceability... that rats next of coolant hoses is now more modular
5. Compressor on the turbo (rest is the same)
6. No MAFs
7. Intake manifold flow seems improved but I need to visually see one
8. Surge compression with the balance duct
9. AWD

I’m sitting this one out. I will either wait for complete new M5, or get a used Bentley GT. I’m not fan of this new M5 with minor changes to an engine and body.

Getting an F90 brand new is out of the question for me. Picking up a used M5 Competition years from now is another matter. But then the next M5 will be out in 2024, so plenty of time to save for one. Plus the 992 Porsche 911 will be out soon. But honestly, I'd rather pick up a cheap used 991.1 C2S and straightpipe it since it was the last of the NA non-GT 911's.

Wait for another 2years for a cpo one. It’s not all about cost, it’s about the reliability for the first MY.

I'd trade all of that stuff for an M5 turbo motor that revved to 8,000rpm or a motor that produced a very different and better exhaust note. McLaren turbo motors rev to 8,500rpm, it's not impossible. BMW has no interest in innovating anymore, when they've got 4 engines powering their entire line up. Luckily they're still making their V12 engine though, which is why I think the M760i is a better buy over an F90 M5 right now. Do a muffler delete on that V12 and you've got a car that gives far more driving pleasure than doing 0-60 in 2.9s. At least to me anyways.
