SOS Malfunction

Who can help me get rid of this? I've heard I can code it out/ go to the dealership and they do a software update... I hate dealing with the dealership so coding it out would be ideal

I have a friend that works at bmw as a service writer. Normal procedure is to replace the whole telematic control unit which would require coding after but he says you can get away with just replacing the battery. Part#84109297787. As far as location to the TCU I can't provide you with any info as newtis.com has been shut down. Realoem.com shows it somewhere in the back seat area. GL

One of my friends had the same issue, the battery had to be replaced. Really good advice here, enjoying the wealth of knowledge in this forum 👍🏻

Had this issue a couple months ago. At first I was annoyed with it at startup but didn't have time to address it. Oddly...the fault just went away.... a google search for it may describe the issue a bit better.

It's a handy bit of info that in case it happens to anyone, couldn't imagine there was a separate lithium battery for it.

It's probably just the battery. I had the same problem earlier this year. I bought the battery online and replaced it. The telecom box is in the trunk under the carpet on the left wheel arch. Maybe if you search somebody may have posted pictures when they did it. I did not. I used newtis at the time to find it.

I take it that the battery worked out? Just heard about this from a buddy and searched.

I got this error today, then ended up going away after about 30 minutes. Can anyone confirm this is a TCU backup battery failure and a photo of the location of it?

Edit: Found this, M6 but same year. Seems like many other models / years have it under the headliner. https://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1714826
