smooth running test - worth running just because I can?

Hi all,

So I don't have any issues with the car currently (fingers crossed) but I have seen of engines lock because of leaky injectors and this makes me nervous now my car is 10 years old with 70k miles on the clock.

Is there any harm or benefit in running ISTA's smooth running test? Is it likely to actually do anything given I dont have any codes or anything?

I know some of you replace injectors as a preventative measure but others seem to think its pointless doing so as injectors can fail at random in their lifetime.

Can anyone help or offer some advice to put my mind at ease?

Thanks all!

You can run it if you want to. There is a step that should pressurize the injectors and see if it holds. Its a good way to tell if they are starting to leak or not.

I cant remember if its called smooth running or misfire detection.

There is a youtuber that I think participates on these forums kern417 that did a video on checking injectors to see if they are stuck open. Although most of the videos are based on the B58 many of the topics are general enough to educate us all.

Although I do not have a B58 or S58 I watch a lot of the videos he posts up as he runs a great data-centric channel.

Please keep us posted on how things go.

I mean the computer literally pressurizes the system and sees if the pressure drops or not. I would think that would be pretty good at finding faults. It shows the psi and each injector on the screen.
