I've always been a massive fan of Air Intakes since I was a young lad. Without showing my age, my first intake system was on my BMW 325Ci. It was the Simota Carbon Intake. Now if you know about Simota, you will know that they sound amazing and that the filtration system is somewhat good. Well at least thats what I thought until I held the filter to the light and could actually see the light, light bulb and ceiling which have me to believe the filtration couldn't have been that great. But hey, this was 25 years ago. Filters have come a long way since then right??

Since then I have had the privilege to own various cars and now own a fabulous piece of machinery, the M5 F10.

Once again I went on quest to have that amazing swoooosh sound and performance by adding an intake system.

I first built my own using the oem boxes and adding proram filters. Although this was good, it didn't achieve that swoosh sound and little no difference in performance. IATs were actually a little higher than stock.

I then made some silicone front mount Intakes which sounded amazing but again IATs were a little higher than I expected.

Then I came across Infinity Auto Design. These guys live and die for Intake systems and can truly say they have the design and science to back their products.

I first see the Intakes at a car meet organised by S63 Kartel at GND Garages.

As soon as you see them in the engine bay, you can easily see that these are very well made and the Carbon is faultless. They just look too sexy in the engine bay..and if you're one of those people who like engine bay porn, these intakes will satisfy your needs!!! They are in my opinion the best looking Intakes In the market by far. Very futuristic design and the design makes sense.

I then had to order mine. At this stage I didn't know about the filtration system, all I knew is that they looked the part and wanted Carbon in my engine bay.

After receiving the Intakes, I was shocked to how light they were. The filter itself weighed more.

The Filter

For me the the upmost importance of an intake is the filters. I need to know that the engine is receiving filtered air and not letting in microscopic particles effectively damaging the turbos.

When I got my hands on the Infinty Auto Design filters, they had some weight to them and it was clear that there were many many layers of mesh and cotton used to filter the air. When I held these to the light you could just about see some light coming through. With other filters I've had in the past you could see the light, bulb and ceiling!! The red Infinity Auto Design filters knew its purpose, to filter air coming in and to minimise damage. All in all, a great filter and well designed.

Fittting

Fitting was super easy. The intake itself is semi sealed, like the stock setup and fit into the original intake ducts next to the headlights.

Removing the stock Intakes and then swapping MAFs over to The Infinities.
I then started at the bottom part which slips on on to the stock ducts and houses the filter. After inserting the filter I then installed the cone part. The kit comes with a clamp which tightly seals everything together. The intake top end on the cone is the same diameter as the stock intake so with regards to air flow there is no obstruction. Silicone coupling and 2 jubilee clips on top to connect the Intakes and the same on the other side. About 45 min to an hour to fit.

Test Drive

Car started normal and drove normal until I warmed her up and gave her some beans.
Straight away I felt the car more responsive after giving it some. It's like the car was breathing better. Those filters decongested my car lol.
On acceleration, I could hear a much deeper swoosh sound from the engine bay. The swoosh sounded expensive!! Such a great sound!! I was really happy with performance and sound. Now time to jump out quickly and take IATs after giving it some juice. The Intakes felt cold when I touched them and this was on a hot summers day (30'c). I then got my laser thermometer and pointed it at the Intakes and was surprised to see all of the intake system was cool. No heat soak from engine bay or outside heat.

These intakes were a no brainer from the get go. They look amazing and do exactly what they were design to do. Filter air and keep the air cool. I'm very happy that I invested in such Intakes and can only thank Infinity Auto Design for building such a great product for our platform. I can easily say you have a customer for life.

I have these intakes too, and agree with all of the above! I can't recommend them highly enough.

Here's my (lame in comparison to the above!) review along with some pics....
