2013 S63 engine rod knock warning!
This is a warning post to people who are thinking of buying a 2013-2011 F10 m5. I have a 2013 f10 m5 and my engine had a problem, i had rod knock. i went to diagnose it to 2 mechanic shops both said i need a new engine. 16k for new engine or 14k to rebuild the engine. I took good care of the engine changed oil every 3k miles synthetic castrol oil and change oil filters. My car has 59k miles. after 2014 f10 m5 has the S63TU(Technical Update) engine supposedly fixing this rod knock issue. If you buy the f10 m5 get the 2014 and up only. peace!

No offense but you have no idea what you're talking about. The 2013 M5 came with the S63TU as well. You might have taken care of it during your ownership, but looking at your post history you've only had your car for 8k miles. Irresponsible to start pointing fingers in the wrong places with what seems to be little knowledge.

You have only had the car for 8k miles. You cant say that you have always changed the oil every 3-4k miles. You have no idea how it was maintained before. It sucks you bought one that hadnt been maintained, but font spread false rumors like this scaring everyone out of buying an s63. If you want tk share than make sure you post the full details, ie: bought it 8k kiles ago changed oil twice with propper fluids, made ticking noise from day one etc.... |

S63 is unrealiable period. Even if u baby it and put a blanket on top of it to sleep. Get the never models of the m5 instead. Im sharing my experience with the car. Beautiful car with a sick heart.

And yes, it's a ~600hp German twin turbo V8, can't expect the reliability of a boring Japanese commuter car. Same as how we're not buying it for the great mpg |

Sharing my exceptional experience with my 2012 and both 2014 F10 M5s, amazing cars and not a single issue, except wear and tear. My current and third 2014 M5 will get a full spa treatment tomorrow: oil change, filters, spark plugs, coils and injectors. I'm now at 100k miles and just returned from a lengthy Autobahn session with speeds above 180 mph, it was a blast. Happy owner experience here, these cars won't get boring, I'm smiling every time I get in the beast. And everyone is right, nobody talks about all the reliable and high mileage M5s...and they are out there, 1000s of them 👍🏻

I know it sucks man, just perhaps the previous owner beat the living hell out of it you never know. there are quiet a few m5s for sale with over 100k. Only one I've seen in carfax that had engine replaced. Wish the best of luck to you in the future.

Every second in the car was a blast and Im eyeing to lease the new m5 just because i dont want to go through the same experience. I took good care of my m5 changed oil every 3k miles, payed $1900 for a set of new michelin pilot 4S tires, I was about to do a full service of the transmission and the diff and sparkplugs but car didnt live long enough for me to do it. payed 5k more so i get one with lower miles so its in better condition. Carfax was clean and service history looked good. Maybe i just got unlucky, Either way i love the m5, I just wish i got newer model and didnt rush in to buy it. I knew it would not be cheap to maintain but at the same time I was not expecting the engine to die on me. You all are angry at me for sharing my experience without realizing my frustration. Peace to you all and take care.

Find the previous owner and hate on them but stop just blaming the s63 for your poor pre purchase inspection. |
