Another gas mileage thread
From interview with Maximiliam Ahme, M Project engineer:
What makes the fifth-generation model even better than its predecessors? Ahme: Like every previous BMW M5 , it is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. On the one hand a comfortable saloon, on the other a racing car. And both with state-of-the-art design and optimum efficiency. Our new V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology reaches 560 hp at 6 ,000 –7,000 rpm and develops 680 Nm of torque. It is one of the few engines that unites two things: turbocharging and high engine speeds. Yet it also has a remarkably low average fuel consumption of 9.9 litres per 100 km. This fi gure is 30 % lower than that of the previous model, despite increased performance. So BMW engineers care about fuel efficiency. Still the M5 falls short compared with competitors like the MB AMG's and Panamera's V8's. Once again, technology should allow us to have our cake and eat it too. |
