AC blowing warm + loud

seems my AC tapped out. symptoms point to condenser or compressor, maybe both, who knows.

my question is how much does this cost roughly at the dealer? I dont plan on doing this myself unless I have too.

Also is this co sided a failure or wear and tear? i have an extended warranty and it would be great of this was covered.

I had comprehensive cover and the dealer did mine when the condenser failed.

I got same thing as well. Haven't used my AC for a few month, went to turn it on and I got warm air and hissing noise. Looked all over forums and saw that the condenser is a common failure part for F10's. One person said they paid $900 at the dealer. I'm going to schedule my car to get dropped off soon.

Condensor leaks at the seams of the elbows. It is a result of faulty lightweight construction. All F10's eventually do it. Mine did it in Sept 2018. Luckily I was still under CPO. New condensor coil is of much better construction. They used to blame rocks for damaging the coil and charge people for repairs, until people actually pointed out the location of the coil is BEHIND another cooler coil, so NO way could a rock get to it.

Here in the States the new model year usually starts in Sept. So he could buy a 2007 model in the fall/winter of 2006.

The hissing noise is due to the low charge. Mine was doing that last year. I threw a can of refrigerant in and the noise went away and the AC was cold again. My guess is when I go to use the AC this year it will be warm again. I'm banking on needing a new condenser, which I will buy and install this summer when I can get my other M5 on the road. (damn DMV's are still closed in NY from the pandemic)

I had the same thing and like the others, it was the A/C condenser. Don't remember the cost off the top of my head, as my warranty covered it, but I know it's fairly involved to replace. I'd guess it was ~$750. I believe the tech said they dropped the engine.

also: not sure if this is common, but mine passed a leak test. it wasn't until they did the UV dye that they found out the condenser was the culprit.

As I previously stated mine was done under warranty as well. Mine passed the leak/vacuum test as well. 3 days later, no AC again and I was PISSED cause I work in the HVAC field and I knew the condensor was leaking. When I came back I got "Call Back" A1 service then. LOL

They don't have to drop engine, but they have to remove air box and intercooler, drop coolant and remove radiator and one of the oil coolers. Just a lot of stuff in the way.

I'd swear they dropped it for mine. maybe they though it was easier, or I'm mixing it up with other work.

Regardless: I think the takeaway is don't trust a passed leak test with this issue on this car. Make 'em put in some UV dye and schedule a f/up a few days later.
