Why does audi not use dct on its rs models and the s8... pretty sure the s7 I drove had a dct.If its just the torque issue Porsche seems to have no problems with its torque monster v8 turbos in the panamera either and if I am not wrong the 911 turbo has some nasty torque figures as well for the dct to handle.

I believe Audi was concerned about the excessive wear on the tranny due to the increased torque. And while BMW and Porsche do have heavy tq numbers and DCT's, Audi went the route of the ZF tranny with their higher tq models (RS7 and S8). The R8 and the RS5 have the DSG or S Tronic.

Im glad I have the ZF in my RS7 because its tuned and pushing 700 crank tq.

Eventually, Audi would need to go S Tronic for all its high powered turbo sports cars. Having a ZF in a sports car is to introduce an Achilles heels on the onset.

I agree.

I have two ZF's now and while its nowhere near the performance of the DCT- the TCU software in both the Jag and the RS7 help it out vs the MCT in the AMG.

Valid point.

The only way they can ever introduce it on the S8 and higher end RS models is if they further enhance and strengthen their DSG even further.........and it's going to cost additional $$$ for R&D and manufacturing.

Heck, Audi just introduced the S-tronic for the R8 V10 LMX so it's gonna take a while for a further upgrade.

OH AND IF I MAY ADD.

I read something over at the Macan forums on why the Macan has PDK while the Cayenne does not have.

A Porsche engineer said that their current PDK IS NOT YET READY for heavy-duty towing applications............something relating to gear positioning or something

According to Porsche, the problem with PDK in the Cayenne is that with a towing capacity of almost 8000 lbs the combined weight of the vehicle and a trailer would be too much for the internal clutches in the PDK gearbox. Also, they say the torque converter Tiptronic provides more sensitivity and control in off road driving. I don't think we'll see PDK in the Cayenne.

so curiously then, what do you all think of the gearbox they are mating to the new X5M? I believe that DCT will only be available on the X6M...

I'm guessing the gearbox selection is tied to weight and AWD, but not sure.

Maybe... I think Scott alluded to the fact the 8-speed with drivelogic might some form of DCT. He has provided accurate insight time and time again so we will see how that plays out.
