Can a bad alternator result in no steering? I’m aware the f10 m5 has electrical steering? When I was starting mine today, code popped up on my idrive saying battery wasn’t able to recharge… went to back out the drive way and had absolutely no power steering. Ran codes through mhd and it said “alternator, mechanical:malfunction”. I’m sure it’s the alternator but no steering!? So unfortunate lol
This might be unrelated to post but what is y’all’s dilemma on flywheel rattle? Mine is terrible, it always rattled but now it almost sounds like knocking. I know for a fact it’s not my motor. This just started happening and in the same day this alternator issues occurs. Bad luck or are these issues related? Any input is greatly appreciated! |

Steering on F10 M5 is hydraulic, check the power steering reservoir for fluid level and if the fluid (CHF 11S) is clean; there are threads on the 'sewing machine' type DCT rattle on the site. Alternator failure is unusual on these but if that's the case then of course the battery won't charge.

Re cap on that, check the pulley belt. If the alternator stopped charging and there's no power steering at the same time, the accessory V belt is probably broken or loose.
