What would you choose -- mileage or color?

Looking to move from an E92 M3 to F10 M5. I've looked at a bunch of cars that are all relatively the same, spec-wise. They all have the Big 3 (Executive, Drivers Assist, and B&O) and look to be in comparable condition.

So, in large part it comes down to mileage vs. color. Just wondering in which direction you all would go. I love MCB, but there's a SS2 with 5,000 fewer miles. Take the miles? And, color notwithstanding, do I always go for the lower miles vs. 10,000 higher miles?

I plan to keep the car long-term, and will purchase an aftermarket warranty. I will have a PPI done regardless. So this is strictly a preference poll. If veteran F10 owners have found that mileage trumps all in drivability and value, let me know.

Thanks!

for me I definitely wanted something with as low mileage as possible, but if you can find the color you really want at a reasonable mileage and you have service records, you should be fine as well.

keep searching, there are low mileage cars out there

If you're willing to wrap the car then color doesn't matter, but if that's not a route you'd go then 5k miles shouldn't matter.

To me, I would rather get the car I want. I've bought a car that was the one color I didn't want and regretted it a little.

Depends on how much difference in mileage, for me colour is very important as some cars look crap in the wrong colour

Having one in gold, silver or heck even bronze and beige dakota interior with a lower mileage is a no, then a Sing Grey with 8 thousand odd more miles and black comfort seats would be yes with me.

I would say that mileage isn't that big of a concern on these cars, but that it depends on how much you value a factory remaining warranty or cost of an aftermarket warranty.

You need to evaluate price, color and mileage and decide which values carry the most weight. If it was me, I would order from most important to least: color, price, mileage. For me I also had 2 other influencers. #1 above all else was it needed to be a 6MT. So, everyone is different.

Go with color. Who knows how easy or hard those 5k miles were. The higher mileage car may very well have been treated better. The color you'll look at and admire every single day.

Furthermore....Look at a M6GC before you pull the trigger on a M5.
That's the car some of us wish we bought instead.

The mileage question.. lol. Easiest way to get into these cars is by going higher mileage. The higher the mileage, cheaper the price. You were looking at that 100k mile car, which I test drove, glad you passed on it!

For me, I seem to always buy a car thats in the 40-60k miles. Depreciation has worked., so at that point your trying to find the right specs within that range and price. The mileage is just miles.. it will only bother you personally as a number if anything. If the car was driven right and has a documented history at the dealership, who cares.

For reference, I purchased my '13 6MT a few months ago for $38K shipped to my house. It has 52K miles on the clock w/ a 100k mile aftermarket warranty that transferred over. The deals are there..

Sorry.. kids are asleep and its the only time I can get a few words in so I have no clue if I added to this discussion.. LMAO. Good luck in your search.. keep it nationwide and realize that shipping is probably $800-$1500.. lots of options out there!!

Hey Seattle996. Good to hear from you again. I agree with you and others -- mileage is my friend. I've learned that with my M3. I was looking at another 95k possibility, and would have been able to get an aftermarket warranty on it for another 24k miles. That's 4+ years at my annual mileage.

I have found 3 top contenders, all about the same spec, just different colors and a 30k gap between them in mileage. My least favorite color has the lowest mileage, and my favorite color (Monte Carlo Blue!) has the sketchiest history or lack of it, actually.

I will have a thorough PPI done for sure, but I certainly appreciate all the comments in this thread.

Just be careful as extended warranty supply on the F10 M5 is rare to say the least. I tried all the usual suspects and they have all excluded this model. Oddly enough same year E63's are covered by many. I was able to get coverage through AutoNation dealer. Expensive but well worth it as mine is burins through 1qt of oil every 1K miles. Which is deemed to be "Normal" according to BMW bulletin FML!

Thanks for the heads up. I have already talked with the dealer from whom I bought the warranty on my M3, and he can get me the same coverage on the M5.

One other thing that is huge for me when considering any new car is the "front butt".
lol

Since I live in NC and we don't require a front plate, I will almost never buy a car that has a front plate screwed into the bumper.
I have had the dealership repair that prior to taking delivery of two cars.

For the Grand Coupe, nothing much is different other than looks.
I think the M6GC is just a sexier car.

To close the thread on this question - and thanks to all who chimed in -- I went with color over mileage. Found exactly what I was looking for with Singapore Gray over Sakhir with Exec, Driver Assist, and B&O. New set of PSS. 68k miles. Its on the other side of the country and the price was right as well. Looks immaculate from a small, specialty dealer. it was the owner's personal car. It just had an oil change and DCT filter/fluid change. 90-day drivetrain warranty included. I'm thrilled and will post a proper Hello when she arrives.

Color for me. If I didn't like the color it will bother me a lot more than mileage.
