Car wonít go into park

I have no idea whatís going on but Iím flying out of town tomorrow for 6 weeks for work. My car will not go into park. So it wonít let me lock the damn doors. Parking brake engaged, car in neutral and engine off and click the stop button again so the car is completely off. Only thing showing on the dash is ďNĒ and the parking brake indicator. The car chirps twice when I try to lock it. Has this happened to anyone before? Iíve had this car for over 2 years now and never had this problem.

You should have it in gear when you hit the stop button to put it in park. You can have it in either D or R but don't have it in N when you turn it off...

It's a weird DCT thing

The car still selects park when switched off in neutral on the 2nd press. Try switching it off in drive as mentioned.

Right, but the car doesn't seem to like it, giving the beeping etc. The "genius" told me to always have it in gear when turning it off.

Thank you, that worked this time. I just tried it five minutes ago and the car went from drive to neutral, not park after I shut it off! Although, Iíve been putting it in Neutral for the past two years with no issue. Itís so weird. It happened to me last week and I just drove it around the parking lot, it did the same thing at the back of the lot but when I came back to my original spot it worked?

I donít know, I can at least lock the doors right now. Iíll dig into it more when I get back to town. I have an extended warranty still. Thank you!!!

Mm never been a problem for me in the past. I think it was part of a software update at sometime. I read some older posts saying that the car does not shift to park from neutral and an update fixed this.

Just wanted to give a quick update. Iím pretty sure itís the ďpark lockout moduleĒ located in the transmission. My car is going into service tomorrow and Iíll confirm when I hear back. I just wanted to put this here in case anyone has a similar issue they can figure it out.

On a related note, my wifeís 2013 535i decided to overheat yesterday and so thatís going into service tomorrow at the same time. Luckily I have extended warranties on both vehicles so Iím not too upset.

Moral of the story, BMW means buy a freaking warranty.
