What should be my next car or keep the M5?

Hello M5 Enthusiats,

I'm reaching out to you all for any feed back as to what I should do with my current car, keep, sell and what to get next.

Here's what I got. I have a 2013 F10 M5 going on 90K miles. I've owned for about 3 years. It's stage 2 and has basically every bolt on and exterior mods I want done. I've done spark plugs and rotors and brakes, new wheels and a control arm. Had to replace a couple fuses, oh and changed the battery. For an M car, I feel it's been a pretty reliable car.

I'm looking to sell for the following reasons:
Higher miles, reading the F10 M5 forums and people blowing their engines, I live in the PNW and the roads and winter can be much for a RWD and finally just getting the itch for something new.

Here's what I'm thinking of getting next and the reasons why I'm unsure. Also, all I'm interested really is a well rounded car that goes fast in a straight line!

- BMW F90 M5. Lease is around $1200 a month; which is a little high or a lot high lol. If I can find one around $900 it would be better. AWD is such a plus, but aren't these the same engines and could have the same problems with the F10 M5's with engine blowing up. How's the axles on these, much better? The F10 M5, anything north of 700 HP you'll have to replace clutches and axles and run meth.

- 2018 F80 M3 ZCP or CS. I love the looks of the M3 and have always wanted one since the E92. I'm 37 and work professionally. I'm hesitant as the M3 platform seems to appeal to a younger crowd. But the looks, the looks! Plus it seems as your pushing higher HP they are more reliable EXCEPT the crankhub! Also, has anyone gone from M5 to M3 and regretted it? Are the CS seats really uncomfortable. Oh and it's RWD, back to my grip issues.

- 2018 Audi RS3 - Almost bought one in the specs I wanted local, but couldn't get my M5 sold. I've owned a couple Audi's, RS6, B8S4, and Audi A4's. All Audi's were pretty amazing, with the exception of the 2011 B8 S4, it just felt so cheaply made and didn't offer the driving experience my M5 currently gives or my previous GT-R. I've heard great things about the RS3, from good driver feel, to easy to mod and get in the 10's and pretty reliable and AWD! Only thing is the looks can be subject. But just a great all around fast daily that will beat 98% of the cars with FBO and it will grip.

- 2019 X3M - Would lease this and it has the new S58 engine that reportedly is one of the strongest engines BMW has made and they also fixed the crankhub issue. Just a tune on these are getting into the mid 10's at 120-126 et. But my wife just bought a 2016 BMW X5. I love the looks and the potential of the X3M with just a flash, but it's a SUV.

- Keep the M5 and wait for the 2021 BMW M3 - the new M3 will have the S58 engine and it will be AWD. It's just a couple years away. I can keep the M5 and wrap it nardo grey this summer and refresh my tune. I still owe on the M5 and by then who knows how low the value will be and maybe no one will want to buy it at 100k plus miles.

Thanks for listening! Any feed back would be great. Oh and by the way my M5 is for sale

I'd say time to upgrade for F90. Try checking out the F90 forums to see if anyone is selling their lease. Or there is a few websites that deal with lease swaps. Having AWD where it's always raining is pretty much a must with all the power these cars have.

If the F10 is running fine keep it,especially with the nice mods you've added to it and then get the M3..should be a nice looker in that blue colour.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm leaning towards the F90 M5 just for the AWD, I just got to wait for the prices to come down. The M3 is calling me in the Blue color haha or Nardo Gray, but just like someone else mentioned that it seems as if the M5 has that more business class feel that suits me.

Who knows though, I may have to find a leaseswap and try out an M3.

I had an LCI 2016 M3 for two months while my friend was deployed oversees.

It felt like a go-kart to me, total fun and zippy.

Haha, this is also what I've heard. What do you drive?

I may want the F90 for grip and straight fast speed.

.
F10 on some weekends. I have yet to experience the F90 long term, however, the few hours I had a chance to get behind the wheel on a road trip it felt like a true evolution to the F10. That being said, I will prefer the E63s over F90. My limited stint left me wanting more soul and less luxury. Again, just me and do not want to start a war here!

^^^What he said. I've driven an F90 and there's no 'soul' just grunt, you may be disappointed with it after having an F10 and the new shape is nothing to write home about, the f10 is streets ahead in looks.Again,as above, just my opinion

I agree. The looks are kind of plain. Once you start adding carbon fiber pieces it starts to look better, but this is what I kind of felt like for the F10 M5.

Honestly, I'm a grunt guy haha. I owned a GT-R and all I wanted was the straight speed grunt. I'm not much of a track guy if any, just a 1/4 guy. I do like the luxury too. If not, I'd already own a F80 M3 CS. Just as a previous member mentioned though, the M5 is more business class feel.

Definitely the all black grille suits better than the chrome and some dramatic wheels would liven it up somewhat. The sunroof would be welcome from the boyracerish carbon top (sorry guys)

You should go for the F90 then. Take a used one but leave some considerable $$$$ aside for getting it up to your standards. Just make sure you drive it and get a good feel about it. I have started to see some early 2018s coming off their leases already.

GL!

I'd say you need to prioritize your wants/needs. Grip, vs straight line performance vs all-around performance?

Personally, I'd choose the M3 CS/Comp they're almost as fast as your stg 2 M5 w/ a stg2 of their own, plus they are much more agile, lighter and all around better performer. Definitely appeals to a younger crowd but honestly, who cares, pick what you want. When the weather is bad, I usually work from home, or generally avoid driving anyway. As long as you're not a lunatic, even in snow, an F80 M3 w/ snow tires should be manageable.

The X3M is intriguing for sure, especially given the potential, but you mentioned you already have an SUV or "SAV" as BMW calls the X5. I'm just not an SUV guy though, so unless you really need the space and awd, I'd pass.

From a financial perspective, the longer/more you drive that 2013, the more it will devalue (as just about any car). On top of that, you won't recoup your money spend on mods. Unfortunately, 2013's are the least desirable year of this car, so they take a hit there as well. With that in mind, waiting for a 2021 might lose you money on your M5, plus you'll pay a premium as an early 2021 M3 buyer/leaser.

With all of that said; I'd sell the M5 as close to stock as possible (hope you kept the oem parts), sell your aftermarket parts, then pick up an F80 M3 w/ when the 2021 M3's come out, as the F80's will take a massive hit at that point.

just my two cents.

F90 M5 hands down ... some very aggressive lease-assumption opportunities.

I owned 13' and 15' F10 M5's and now own a 19' F90 M5C.

Car's amazing and really does just about everything well ... took delivery in Sept 18 and loving every minute of it.

Loved my two F10 M5's but this is other level and AWD is a game changer as is the interior, seats and Launch Control is much better. Oh and it's fast as f*ck ...

Good points. I care about the M3 appealing to the younger crowd and I care about the business feel.

I still owe on the car. Unfortunately with the trade I’d be too upside down. Plus if I did sell my parts not sure who’d buy a stock one for around 28k.

AWD is important to me so the F90 m5 seems to be the most desired choice. I just don’t see myself doing $1200 lease payments. I may do a m3cs lease then go to a f90 m5

Bro congrats. I was following before when I was heavy on this thread. Being a previous F10 M5 owner, besides Awd can you tell me what’s better about the F90 in your eyes?

Also as you know the F10 M5 engines, axles, and clutches weak points
The engine especially. People blowing their engines left right. Arent these the same engines in the f10 and F90?

Remember Road & Track timing an F10 doing the 0-60 dash in 3.6 secs, so what can they do with the heavier 90 with the unchanged engine and 275/285 tyres.

2.8 seconds ... and the F90 is actually lighter despite the AWD.
