Ceramic HVAC controls

I enjoy making small updates to customize my interior so decided to update my controls to ceramic plus some other small items. Little afternoon project to change my Ignition Switch back to black, replace broken cupholder, update my idrive controller and HVAC controls to Ceramic, and replace older HVAC buttons with new ones. Took me a few hours with a little patience and sweat in my hot garage but got it all done.
Part Numbers:
LCI cupholder 51169277262
Ceramic Idrive Controller 65829350725
Ceramic HVAC/CD Front panel 61319328429
Ceramic HVAC Rear panel 61319290753
Updated HVAC buttons w cooled seats 61316848887

Does the ceramic iDrive add any function, or it is primarily an appearance mod?

It's both. It provides "some" touch MMI capabilities within iDrive.

Funny enough I did it for appearance as I don't recall seeing many M5's with Ceramics installed - had no clue that it actually added functionality!!

I love that look! I saw a few sets for sale in the classifieds section, really nice pieces.

That is great. Mind sharing where you purchased from? Any modification required to make things fit?

Purchased the cupholder, HVAC replacement buttons and Idrive controller from local dealer. The ceramic panels came from another board member that was in the FS section but I've also been monitoring Ebay and they can be picked up there as well - just need to ensure the panel has the cooled seats option. No modifications at all - all plug & play!

The ceramic part itself is looks only. The NBT controller (ceramic or not) comes with touch capabilities, such as writing letters on the surface.

I had a ceramic controller installed as well, when I had my NBT Evo retrofitted. I'm not sure how the regular controller handles heat, but the ceramic controller gets REALLY hot when the car sits in the sun for an hour or so. It's practically unusable until it cools off, that's how how it gets.

Would love to update my navigation like you did as my wife has an updated version in her '18 X5 - unfortunately the price is a little steep at this point.

It's well worth it. The interface, nav, voice commands it's all so MUCH better.

Always good to know M6 343's don't quite fit M5,hope you sell yours on.
On mine added a litre (quart) of 0-30 yesterday and recently carnuba waxed it.
Now want to gloss colour code rear badge like yours Sapphire M5 as fed up of the all too obvious chrome.

M5 F10 still is King.

Got to put some pics on here of my motor but first want to remove rear badge and repaint it, best way I think is with your fingernails to avoid any sharp instruments.Car is singapore grey, very dark gunmetal what should I paint it in,gloss black or body color.Give me your opinions.

Blue painters tape all around the badge and mark the letters placement. Then use fishing line or dental floss to slide behind the badge to separate the tape and remove the badge. Pretty easy to remove the badges, now the spoiler that's a different story!

Here's how I did mine:

I used plastidip and their gloss to paint mine. I didn’t remove the badges, I just covered the car from overspray and taped the colored part of the badge. 4 coats of each.

Had to take my M5 to Bm dealer today for its yearly DoE roadworthiness then a 55 point check after that including engine,DCT,diff and drive shafts, no problems all boxes ticked.
That M5 badge paint job is interesting Lightfytr and I like the result but I prefer to remove the badge anyway..I'll look up that plastidip you mention. Are you going to stay with that rear spoiler,it looks fine to me.

I think I am staying with the spoiler. I have been thinking a lot about it.

Good luck with the badge.

Thanks and I'm sure that deeper spoiler will give you more rear downforce on the fast bends.
