replacing muffler with race resonator

Soul-type exhausts got me thinking...why not just spend ~$110 on a pair of Vibrant race resonators, cut out the mufflers, and weld them in their place? Am I missing something?

Do it, while at it, replace the stock mufflers with 1769 vibrant race mufflers, delete the stock resonators and replace the stock x pipe with magnaflow x pipe. You'll love the sound.

It's been done several times. Sounds intoxicating. No drone and it sounds like a monster especially with catless downpipes. Still maintain the interior quietness unless in WOT.

Hey, my drunk idea wasn't bad*! Was reading through your thread...I'm assuming the magnaflow resonated x-pipe one wants isn't the 2.5" version you originally used, but the 3" model (12469) from the end of the thread, yes?

I'm wondering if, given I'm staying catted, the Vibrant race resonator (1794) might be better than the race muffler (1769), though I can't imagine that race muffler doing much muffling, either.

Not a bad idea. I personally took out my stock resonators. Then removed my mufflers and put back my resonators where my mufflers where. Kind of created my own SOUL mufflers. I'm very happy with the results.

Interesting. I'd have thought this would result in the same level of drone as the turner muffler delete (one set of resonators and no mufflers), but perhaps having the resonators at the end makes it better. How are you on drone?

The drone isn't that bad. I do have cold start delete so can't say much about that. There is some drone around 1.8k-2k rpms. But besides that, it's freaking awesome! Under 4K it's not too crazy but higher than 4K is crazy loud and shifts are even louder. IMO it's better than some of these $3k exhaust setups

I had originally went with the turner axel back and catless downpipes and the drone was too much so I threw on the magnaflow resonated x pipe. At the time 3" wasn't available so I had no choice but to go with 2.5" which I don't recommend if the 3" is available.

Since I've never tried resonators in place of mufflers, I don't know what the outcome would be. I imagine between resonators and race mufflers there may not be much diff.

Here is what I recommended. Hopefully the forum doesn't strip the links.

Hey guys did this on june 1st. Bought Vibrant race resonators 3 inch.
The reason why. I come from driving nissans thats all they talked about.
Anyways these were very cheap on ebay. A seller had 2 of them bought them for 125$ both shipped. Chaching saved monies. On ebay bought 4 inch quad staggered pipes for 75$ shipped. Installation was 180$.
Still have stock resonators on and stock x pipe. I have been thinking of buying the supersprint straight X pipes but for 700$+ not really into it.
Downpipes are on the way VRSF. I will be wrapping the pipes with ptp 2 inch lava rock wrap.

How do you like the sound in person?

Also, was it Vibrant model number 1794 that you installed?

Here you go guys! We dont have to spend an arm and a leg to be making these cars sound good or fast.
I still have stock X pipe and stock resonators.
In comfort mode the sound you can feel it in the cabin. At WOT it is quiet. Around the cops I switch it back to comfort from race. Then it just goes silent.
In M2 MDM full performance on tabs. It sounds nice and deep. Its quiet. A bit quiet for me. Once adding the downpipes I want to make another video. But other then that until then guys. That all my secrets for now.
