Question 3 Car seats in M5 or M6GC??

Hello all,

I've read and searched all over for help on this and so far only found 1 short vid of an M5 with 3 car seats (VERY snug) and some posts comparing the 2 cars.

My situation is this. I have a 4yo and now also Twin boys, we currently have a 335 Convertible and an M3 Coupe.

The 335 will be traded in for a Volvo XC90 that we plan to use as the "family car", and I am debating between the M5 or M6GC to trade in my M3 so we can have a back up car that "could" fit all 5 of us if needed.

Question, does anyone know if you can fit 3 car seats in an M5 or M6GC? (2 rearfacing + 1 Forward facing)???

Pictures or other references would be greately appreciated.

Thx

3 car seats - M6 GC - def not. M5, nope. Sorry. I have a 15 month old and a rear facing recaro seat. Cannot put 2 of those and 1 forward facing. Not enough space.

Only way is to put 4 year old in middle sans car seat and then put car seats in outward positions. That's the only hope!!

(I'm not suggesting you not use a car seat for the older kiddo but it's the only hope)

I had an F10 and an F06. I can tell you is the 5 has way more room in the rear compared to the 6GC.

I've got three young children; five, three and one. They can all get into the back of either the m5 or M6GC. One in a Maxi Cosi Pearl, another in a Rodi and the eldest goes on a slim booster cushion. Fortunately she's quite small so she fits in well. Shes probably quite well protected though in case of any accident as the two child seats either side should provide extra cushioning.

The 5 is more practical as the 6GC has the huge central console that takes all leg space from the middle seat in the back.

Given your situation they may fit in the back, but the middle seat would be a slim place to sit and not ideal. Most child seats are fairly wide and even the narrowest seats wouldn't get three across the back seat.

As much as I want to get the M6GC I'm sad to see that the odds are stacking against it...

Thank you all for the replies so far, I hope I can get some more from people like you that have the experience

Here is a photo with Recaro convertible car seat. As you can see if you put 2 of those in the back, there will be nearly not enough space (width) for a Forward facing seat.

I don't have an M5 but I do have an F10 535i. I have two kids and I am able to fit two front facing seat with ample room for a skinny person in the middle so I don't think a third car seat will be a problem.

With that said, I was somewhat cross shopping for an M5 and a M6GC and based on my research, two car seat will be just fine but the middle seat will be useless as it's usually a console there. Also if you have small child that you need to help get in an out of the car it becomes a choir because of the low rear roofline of the GC. If you need space, definitely get the M5

Definitely a no go in the 6GC, and would be a tight fit in the M5. You would need to use smaller, slimmer car seats to make it work, but my question is do you really want to compromise the safety of your children by putting them in what are likely sub par car seats under any circumstances?? I only have two kids, so my car seats fit fine (535i), but if I had 3 kids, I would just get an X5M if I were you, and perhaps pickup an older M car for fun. E92 M3 maybe????

Thank you for all the posts, I will continue with the research and post some pics of the 3 car seats in the car I get.

So far, the XC90 should (finally), be here this week so I got a bit of time to make my decision.

It's sad for the X5M option now that the Volvo will get here, I looked it up and was the second option if they did not deliver the XC90 this week.

Once again thanks

XC90 -the new one, is one sweet car. Especially in the inscription trim. The interior and amenities are top notch.

Yes, that is the new XC90, the T6 Inscription, we're excited about it, we drove it and it checked all the things we wanted.

Still, I want to have a "fun" car, because as good as the XC90 is, it is NOT a fun car to drive (compared to the X5 M or so)

The 5 is more likely to fit 3, but I think I don't think it's going to work.

I had a struggle fitting two in the back and a 11 year old in the back of my former F10 M5.
