275/305

Some owners are fitting 275/305 tyres to their 21'' custom wheels, just wondering if at replacement time this slightly wider size but in 20'' can be fitted to the 343M's without any side effects like tramlining etc.

I only have the 305s on at the moment. After a lot of research and being told one thing and the other I finally decided to take the gamble. Best decision I have made. They fit perfect with zero side affects and gave me a night and day difference with traction when using the Michelin PS4S as compared to the 295 Michelin Pilot super sports I had fitted before.

Do it, you won't look back.

I don't know about the fronts but I'm also running a 305 MPSS on stock 601s in the rear. No problems at all.

Meaner still.

Thanks for the input guys, seems it's fine just to go with the 305 rears when I wear the 295's out and already thinking how nice they'll look elbowing outwards slightly improving the stance of the car.
As a matter of interest the rears on the new non comp F90 i test drove were 285.

Got 305's on the rears -- MPSS4s -- on-demand traction is now not an issue; nor is breaking loose in 1/2/3 gears. Simply amazing. A must do!

1st gear for me is a no go, 2nd is mostly possible, 3rd is never a problem. I'm able to cruise in 3rd at 35ish flick to 2nd, plant it and get 100% traction 95% of the time, in the dry of course. Something I was never able to do before.

If you want real traction then go with the toyo r888r, these weren't an option for me in the UK with our ever changing weather. I don't regret my decision with the Michelin MPS4S, there isn't a better daily tyre for the M5 on the market on my opinion.

No tune, just the ZCP and Dwaynos I hear you. As a FL resident, rain frequents us oh too often. I also believe the F90's come stock with 4S's now too. So, when I do turn the vehicle in, post lease term, I don't BMW haggling me about "you don't have manf. spec tires" etc.

I never floor first as well. I've yet to even test the tires with LControl.

Cheers,
H

Don't be surprised if the 305s don't hold traction at first, once they've got a few miles on them they're ok. I was really annoyed when I first got them, I got the impression it made my car feel slower, it was spinning the wheels but the MDM traction was able to cut power in a different way, not sure the reason behind it.

Also a drawback of the 305s is that MDM is now very boring.

Yeah like on all new tyres the slippery top coat has to be dispelled, some prefer to do it quickly by off traction smoke spin. The m dyn mode is something that I've used a couple of times and is halfway house in between traction control and traction off and we should be glad that in case we overdo it (remembering too much welly on a 911 coming out of corner) it will still righten the car unless it's a no cluer behind the wheel.

Seems like this version of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is the unsung hero of the range.I'd never heard of it and was mixing it up with the Cup 2 etc versions but as you say for UK weather its better for the ps4s with its more water dispersing grooves in the tread. The Cup2 version looks decidedly dicey in wet weather with the more balder surface.

Absolutely yes, the cup 2 is a semi track tyre. I did consider these but I couldn't afford to buy a set of PS4S aswell for when the rain comes.

You'd need your own tyre change machine also Dwaynos!

I will be fitting 305/30/20 ps4s's to the rears before long.As you have yours fitted already to your 343m's 10 inch wide wheels have you any inside tyre rub problems or are 5mm spacers required. I am aware that 10.5 inch wide rims minimum are req for this tyre size by the manufacturer.

I was lucky to get a nearly new 305 30 mps4 for not a lot so it'll have to be these when the change time comes soon.

Are the r888r as bad in the wet as they say? I might consider some next spring either way but don't want to get caught out on a wet day. Are your 315s on the standard 10" wheel?
