I just had to jump in here. When tracking you'll have your windows down, and I guarantee you won't be hearing the internal soundtrack...I do somewhat mourn the fact that the F10 is so quiet that BMW felt the need to create the sound internally. I guess I may end up owning my E90 M3 for longer than I thought, the real sounds are one of the reasons I own the car.

I actually think this has the potential to be really cool. Gotta try it out of course, but I'm not gonna be quick to bash it

Very impressive
I'm pleased that active sound, like the introduction of the turbos, allows the driver to have the best of both worlds and therefore an unbelievably versatile car delivering more complete ownership experience. This is exactly the kind of innovation that makes me love bimmers.

I rather stay comfortable with the aircon blasting in my face. Only at night will I enjoy "the good shit" with the windows down. Anyways, I was just giving the M Engineers some credit for their hard work. It's really amazing when fan boys just love to complain all day but not realize how hard it is to design a car for majority to love. Gosh..

its like the GTi's who have a pipe from the engine to the cabin so you hear the engine more, and amplifies the sound.

I wonder what those few that are supportive of this gimmickery would have said if this was done on a GT-R, or an IS-F. My guess is that most of them would've bashed it for being the proof that Nissan/Toyota could never make a real performance car, or being "video game super cars", or something to that effect.
Just keep in mind, that the only thing that allows BMW to put this sorts of fakery in their cars is the fact that there are people that support it. So if you think this is a cool idea, be proud that you are shaping the future of the M. If I cared enough about the M brand, I would start an internet petition to make sure they do a proper job tuning their exhaust and drop this BS on at least the US model. |

Can't wait for Skrillex to make a dubstep remix of the V8TT and BMW markets it as the Competition Package.

I will judge once I test the car. It does sound gimmicky on its face, but maybe it will be implemented well. Only time will tell....
....but a gimmicky "active sound" feature won't turn me off to an otherwise brilliant car. |

As some of the others have said, unless you are literally blasting heavy metal music, you should be able to hear the engine with the windows up. A fake engine soundtrack is exactly what automotive enthusiasts dread. If I wanted to listen to an audio recording, I could just open youtube and pop my headphones on! If this becomes a 'trend' in the future, then I will have my car remapped with a Carrera GT engine and exhaust sound. If you're going to listen to fake crap, it might as well be good fake crap. |
