The BMS intake was replaced by the BMS Elite intake that has a nice glossy coating now. Looks sharp.

What about heat from the engine. Surely there must be more cost effective air intakes that seal in a box rather tgan open bms ones...

There are supposed HP gains with cold airvttpe AI's

Yes, they are called stock intakes without the charcoal filter.

The problem with keeping it sealed is you add more restriction in the process, so when these intakes are designed they have to balance heat management vs. airflow restriction and come up with a balance that works well. The BMS S63TU intake design is well proven, looks great, and sounds great. But it's not going to be for everyone.

I went ahead and ordered a set of the gamma intakes. I had them send a pair of the mesh and paper filter. You can definitely tell why they don't recommend daily driving with the mesh filter. My M gets driven maybe once a week sometimes twice, but I am still nervous about running the mesh. Which one do you use? Have you heard the way the paper filter sounds compared to the mesh?

Referring to the Gamma intakes? Which brand filter did you switch to? The paper filters they provide are wrapped in spectre plastic. Found them here https://www.spectreperformance.com/s...aspx?prod=8161 for $20. They charge $50 each for the mesh and I'm sure they are also $15 or $20. I wouldnt mind switching to another paper filter like you mentioned.

This is not a muscle car from 30 years ago. BMW put a lot of money into research and development, especially on M cars. Don't you think the stock intakes are better than any aftermarket setup? Heat rises, hot air under the hood (turbo cars) is what you are pulling into the intake.
Just remove the carbon filters, and you will see an improvement. Even muscle cars are using ducting to pull cool air from front of the car under the grill, or off the windshield.
Go figure... Performance is what counts.
