Thoughts on buying this 13

https://www.carfaresummerville.com/u...f8106d85e1.htm

New member wondering if this f10 is worth purchasing. I stopped in and took a look at it and cosmetically it looks really nice. I have read that oil consumption and overheating are issues for this year. Wanted to see what else to look for. TIA

My first thought was $37k for a 2013 with 70k seems pretty high. monte Carlo Blue with black wheels is an awesome combo, but I noticed a few things in the pics. In the pic of the reverse camera on the infotainment screen, the right side where it would normally show the parking sensors has error icons above and below the car. I would check if the sensors are working correctly. It has the bang and Olufsen speaker covers, but only on the doors and not the tweeters or center speaker. So it doesn't actually have the B&O system and someone just added some, but not all of the speakers/grilles for the look. It has a Silverstone center armrest while the rest of the interior is black. Finally, the tires front and rear are mismatched. In my opinion, if the prior owner cut corners on these items, I would be concerned that they cut corners on the maintenance and repairs as well. Unless they have service records proving a solid maintenance history(doubtful), I would try to find one that you can verify has been well maintained. Just my .02. Good Luck with your search.

So my m5 is a 13' and I'd probably be looking at $37k-$40k for mine but I have 50k miles and a unique frozen paint job...

That being said this car has been cosmetically modified. ie: rims, carbon front lip, umatiza LED headlight conversion, B & O speakers so I understand the added price point.

Logically the more mods a car had the harder it gets driven. Maybe not everyone might agree

Unless you're absolutely in love with it there's better deals out there.

I don't see the big deal with having b&0 or hk both sound great and some even modify their b&o bc still not satisfied with it. These M5's are becoming rare now so a price adjustment can be discussed with a tyre match also.

Looks like it's already gone. the mismatched speakers were odd, as were the mismatched tires.

Also, I've never heard of (or experienced) 13's having overheating issues.

Oil consumption is a thing, but it's hit or miss, seems to vary widely, and is often helped (sometimes cured) by bumping up to 40 weight oil.

appears someone loved it enough to buy it, it's no longer listed.

These cars are worth whatever they're priced to the right buyer.

All excellent points and some that I didn't catch being a novice. I did check back on it and appears to be sold now. No heart loss here and will continue my search. Thank you all for your help.

I wouldn't get a 13 anyways, even though many here have no issues with them. Just for the LCI upgrades it was worth it for me to only go 14+.

If you find another one put it on so we may 'analyse'. I've got a '13 and never had overheating or oil consumption issues with it, probably you heard some scaremongering from the lci gang

If you find an m5 that meets your requirements ie option, mileage, history, price etc...you are likely going to have to jump on it. These seem to sell fast. I missed out on several and ended up haveing to fly out of state to buy the one i bought. Very happy i ended up with this one in the end though.

This.

Mine was a '16 cp w/ manual. Popped up last year on a bmw dealer website in CT…I'm in Los Angeles. Called and said to pull it off the lot and I'd take it. Put a $10k deposit down immediately. Hope and a prayer is the way you buy these, especially a manual. You find one you like and you can live with any minor issues, do it.

There is no such thing as an overheating issue with the S63. The flexible connections for the turbo coolant pipes are known to leak. Common issue, no hard or expensive to fix (DIY friendly as well).

Oil consumption is hit or miss. Doesn't matter what year the car is.

I drive my car daily in AZ heat of over 110, idle for long periods sometimes, and ky temperatures never make it much past 1/4. They dont even come close to half on the gauge

Remember if in intense heat over 100F then put it in Super Sport and the oil will be cooled more via the lay down oil cooler.

Due to our consistent temperatures being over 110f. I prefer to use a modified oil cooler valve which will keep oil constantly circulating through all of the coolers. I used it in my n63 and it kept the temps way down all summer.

I got my 13 recently in the low 30s with 55k miles. They have been selling fairly quickly, but when its meant for you its meant for you. I had no issue spending time getting PPI and researching the one i found before taking the plunge. No overheating or oil consumption issues. Only regret i have is as others have stated, not having LCI LED headlights and tails. Something i will be tackling soon however, so no biggie there.

Thanks, i will check them out. Honestly mostly keeping my eye out on the headlights since they're so hard to come by and good price. Also getting my wheels redone currently.

Also, you can do the LED upgrade with the umnitza f10 headlights. I actually ordered these for my 13' back in may and I'm still waiting on the delivery smh. But its really gonna refresh the look of the car.

IMO I think its a bit pricey for the lack of options, but Im sure it is because of the Pure Metal edition. It is in immaculate condition however. I bought mines in Utah and had a great experience with the dealer out there.

I was considering those, but I want to retain the Adaptive functions, and also add anti dazzle.
