MLB changes "DL" to "IL"

I kept hearing people on ESPN say, "He's on the IL..." And I was like they meant "DL". So, I looked to it up. They didn't want to use the word "disabled" anymore so now it's "Injured List". WTF???!! Have we become completely so PC in this country that disabled people were offended by this??! Why don't we just change every sports team that offends people. The Minnesota Vikings - well, there's a nasty group. They raped, plundered and pillaged their way across the world. That's offensive. As much as I can't stand Dan Synder of the Redskins, at least he said FU, I'm not changing the name. It's amazing how these companies and teams cave to the minority of a small group. Ok, rant done!

Not so sure it was a PC thing as much as a correct labeling thing. The players on that list are not disabled. They're injured. "Disabled" usually denotes a permanent condition. Football calls it "injured reserve," right?

As much as I’m with you on the PC garbage, as someone who isn’t really into sports, isn’t injured list more accurate? Unless there’s a valid argument about tradition or something to which I’m entirely ignorant of, it makes sense to me.

I’m happy to be corrected though. Again, not really a sports fan, so I have no perspective other than the obvious one.

Here's the article:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...=.b2b42fc5b9ca

“The principal concern is that using the term ‘disabled’ for players who are injured supports the misconception that people with disabilities are injured and therefore are not able to participate or compete in sports."

WOW!

That's what I mean. The baseball players not disabled, they're injured. Plenty of people with disabilities compete in sports. Some at very high levels. They also get injured. The name change just reflects reality and corrects a long-standing misnomer.

I'm all against this PC craze but I disagree that this is being PC, this is just using the actual correct term. If you have a disability generally it is not the same as being injured, as most of the time the term disabled refers to something that is permanent or will be there for their lifetime, and can also refer to mental handicaps.

Ok guys. I stand corrected. While I agree 'injured' is a better phrase, it was also motivated by special interest groups. I do believe that disabled people can play sports so I agree and sympathize with that.

Wait, what do the Vikings have to do with all of this??? Why not pick on the poor Dolphins, or Rams, heck even the Steelers. Ain't nobody steel-ing anything in Pittsburgh any more

I never saw so many players injured in baseball. Could you imagine if this was a contact sport? The season would be cancelled.

This is why I have a hard time watching baseball until after the hockey season finishes. Those guys are gladiators. Chara playing with a broken jaw. They stitch them up and back out on the ice. Baseball players go out for 10 days with a hang nail.

The baseball players of today are pre madonnas. Carlos Correa out 6-10 weeks because of a injury he suffered while getting a massage in his home. This has to be a joke. I'm don't follow hockey. However, I appreciate, and respect the game. And it's also exciting to watch.

Nick Bonino after the 2017 Stanley Cup final.

I always thought that it was “disabled” because it included people who are uninjured but still not going to play for a while. For example, parental leave and bereavement. Using the word in its true root form of ‘not being able’, or the opposite of ‘able to play’, as opposed to referring to people with disabilities. Which makes it more correct than calling everyone on the list ‘injured’.
