I don't see why they need this system. The engine already sounds great from the outside. I think it would get annoying because if I'm in the market for an executive sedan I'd still want it to be nice and quiet even though it's a super sedan.

Maybe the soundtrack is nice BUT I WOULD KNOW IT'S FAKE. I guess it's cheaper then tuning an exhaust for optimal sound, performance and efficiency and that doesn't have an exhaust flap that sounds like a rattling piece of junk in parking garages per 335i.

I wonder if they did this because the natural sound w/out audio in the new M5 doesn't hold a thread to the outgoing V10 M5's...which cost $40k-$50k now.

I don't see what the big deal is. As long as it drives awesome and fits the luxury sports sedan bill (which all the reviews says it does) I don't care if there's some sound boosting.
Maybe in order to make the car quiet enough inside to feel luxurious they weren't hearing enough of the engine / exhaust so they boosted the sound this way. |

Yeah
Wow, you guys sure do rush to judgement. I think I'd wait to actually try it out before I label it "epic fail". Tough crowd.
I, for one, am VERY excited about the new M5!

I did the same thing when I upgraded the speakers and amp on my 94 celica. The alternator sounded great! HAHA

It's a M car, yet a luxury sedan.
Thus the M Engineers had that in mind to block out unnecessary noise from outside (approximately those that are of 85db and below) and give you the purest sound of your engine. By sound proofing your cabin, your family can still ride and chat in comfort during road trips. When tracking during sports plus, you feel engaged to the car without having to hear much about the Ferrari that is chasing your backside. Just you and the engine revs. It's my 2 cents worth, but one thing for sure. I feel that the M Engineers have done a fantastic job.

So how far off are we when people are installing 2x15" subs to enhance the sound of their engine

The 2017 M5 will shoot out white smoke from the rear fenders to replicate a burnout.... this way, you don't have to worry about blowing a differential, wasting tires, gas, clutch, etc. I'm sure the smoke system will be well complimented by the surround sound 'Active Sound' of an engine in your car. What are you saying?! You can't deaden the sound of a twin turbo V8 with that exhaust man, no matter how soundproof they tried to make the cabin. Thus, all you need to do is not have your music blasting and you will hear it rev very clearly. Hell, I can hear an electric engine revving up in a LEXUS very clearly, never mind a damn V8 TT in a BMW.

Please tell me this isn't written using a primary source????
Who would leak such shenanigans? If this turns out to be legit, then I take back every positive comment I've left regarding this machine.
