PS4S vs Sport Cup 2s vs R888R

I'm in the market for a new rear tire.

I currently have 305 Sport Cup 2s and they are far better than 295 stick PSS. I'm looking to move up to a 315 in either the PS4S or R888R.

I'm at 640 whp and 660 tq. I roll race nearly twice a month and will be at the drag strip maybe 2 times in the next 3-4 months.

Obviously the R888R is the proper choice - but how are the PS4S compared in a 315? If I can get away with better wear, less noise, better rain performance for only a slight performance drop...

I doubt you're going to find a better performance tire for the drag strip than the R888R. I haven't driven an R888R, but since everyone's using that for the street/drag strip, I'm guessing it's better than the competition.

I've switched from a Sport Cup 2 to PS4S and I found the performance of the PS4S to be similar (granted, it was 295 Sport Cup 2 to 305 PS4S). The PSS is nowhere near the performance of the Cup 2 or PS4S. I'm pushing close to 650whp and close to 690 tq and depending on the surface the tire temps, the PS4S can fully grip in 2nd gear WOT.

Thank you for this. I was looking for input from people putting down 620 - 700 to see what tires are working for them. I think 305 ps4s is where im going. Im rarely at the drag strip so I dont think the r888r are the right choice... for now at least.

We have a lot of cars here running r888r on their daily cars all of the are Mpower
Nothing but good words about it on the strip or street runs
The only thing is the increased road noise which if you're playing some music won't be noticeable

Myself I'm running on 305s cup2 and very minor slip on some days and full grip on others

Good luck

I daily drive 315 r888r and have put 9k miles on them. They are indeed noisy, and will only get noisier as they wear. I'm switching to 305 ps4s, and will miss the performance of r888r, but the loud humming after 9k miles does get to you eventually....
I've heard cup2s are great, but only when warmed up, and wears fast also.....might as well get r888r if you can stand the humming.

I daily r888r I don't care of the noise as i'm putting down the power. Look at my sig to see power. I also roll race weekly and 1/2 mile couple times. I plan on 2 sets of r888rs per year.

What rear rim are you running? And width?

I have the 305/30/20 Michelin Pilot Cup 2's on the rear … amazed that they lasted this long (1.7 years) but they spin pretty bad (not as bad as the Pzero's that came on the car... that was like driving on sand)… I think that they may have heat cycled too many times... I do a burn out leaving my subdivision (at about 20-25mph) each day to warm them up... but they still don't have the stickiness I would expect...
since they are to the tread wear indicators (I've had the butt pucker effect for a while now when it's wet), I'm going for the PSS4's this time around (305/30/20). I wish that the 315/30/20's were available in the US as I would get that size instead.
on a similar note, it's about time to replace my PSS front tires (265/35/20) that are stock sized,,, is there really any benefit to doing 275/35/20? they are only $1 more so I was considering,,, but interested in opinions...

I'm wondering the same thing about changing out the front tire size when moving up to a 305 on the rear. If there isn't a reciprocal widening on the front to a 275, doesn't this alter the stance enough to negatively effect the handling of the car?

I'm curious how others have approached this when bumping up to the 305 on the rear. Any feedback from those that have done this?

I currently have the ps4s and they are good tires but for my power levels the only tires that hook are the R888Rs.
