F10 M5 - UK Buyers Guide
Hi All,
I am in the market for an F10 M5 and want to know where to start in terms of a checklist of must haves, know issues etc. I understand that from 2013-2014 the more desirable LCI model came out. Is there also a common set of optional extras that a well spec'ed car should include? If budget allows, is it worth while to get the Competition Package or can you make do without? Likewise for technical quibbles, are there any leaky seals to watch out for or worn bushings / suspension points to check? TIA Last edited by metz_m5; 11-05-2019 at 09:01 AM.. |

I would echo OneExtra - no way I would run mine without the warranty so I would suggest getting one AUC.
I didn't have a big list of must haves and the car I bought came with lots of options I wouldn't have specced new but the must haves for me were: M-Multifunction seats (super comfortable) split fold rear seats (use the car for all sorts and this was handy) surround view camera (its a big car and this is a real help when parking) harman kardon speakers (good music is important to me) extra 12v sockets (random I know). 20" wheels weren't on my list but they are common and do look better, most people want them, they are on my car and I like them but they wernt a deal breaker. Personally I would avoid keyless entry - my car has it, best I can tell its just a security risk and I keep mine in a RFID pouch all the time. TBH these are well specced cars to start with, the options that are important are personal - familiarise yourself with what the options are and decide whats important to you. Comp pack wasn't a big one for me - test drove both, comp pack had something about it but the standard car was already a monster so wasn't a deal breaker for me and I don't regret buying the standard car. Again some people will feel differently. Good luck with the search! |

As you pointed out they are well spec'ed to start with being a flagship model for BMW. I might try to dig out an old 2014 brochure from the interweb to get an idea of optional extras and make my list from there. |

Quite fancy a change to a Porsche but would only sell the M5 for the right amount which I don’t see happening as most people seem to want to spend as little as possible rather than buy a low mileage, high spec example for strong money

I would look for comfort opening/close also & soft close as extras.
Off-topic.....I bought a 2015 GTR, I fancied something a bit more visceral and track oriented. Its a monster, well its...Godzilla!

Got an M5, 12 plate, just under 34k miles, debadged imperial blue for sale if you're interested? Owned the car just under 18 months (one previous owner, friend of mine, only did motorway miles) and selling as I'm moving in to Central London. Let me know if interested, can also arrange a test drive on my insurance.

For me the CP is a must, but I love back roads and cornering. The regular M5 handles this well, but the CP gives you a bit more feel and a lot more confidence.
Also multifunction seats as mentioned. Soft close doors and comfort access are pretty cool. 360 cam is good for parking in awkward places. I'd say the only upgrade would be sticky tyres so you can get the power down in 2nd and maybe 3/4 of it in 1st. I wish mine had land keep assist and radar cruise. Mine hasn't got split fold rear seats, but that's not an issues for me. Really tho it all pales into insignificance once the engine is warm, you hit a nice stretch of open road and let it rip... Big speeds are very easily achievable and the acceleration is pretty intense in every gear! The smile on your face will be priceless
