Tinting my windshield

Hi everyone. I just sold my supercharged e92 M3 and stepped into a 2016 M5 with competition, executive, and drivers packages, along with carbon ceramic brakes.

I suffered an eye injury about 10 years ago, and henceforth I’ve always tinted the windshields on my cars (along with wearing prescription sunglasses).

I’d like to put a 50% ceramic tint on the windshield, but this is the first vehicle I’ve ever owned that had a camera on backside of the rear view mirror that controlled a few functions, and a heads up display.

Will tinting my windshield mess with any of the features?

My car is being shipped right now so I can't check, but I'm fairly certain the camera and sensors are all built into the part of the mirror that is attached to the windshield. The top edge of the windshield tint will be cut into a u shape and goes below the spot where the mirror attaches to the glass, so I don't think it will mess up the sensors for wipers, headlights, etc. I had 80% ceramic windshield tint installed on my wife's new SUV and the sensors and the heads up display work as they did before the tint install. I plan to do the same on my m5 as soon as it arrives.

I have 30% on my front windshield w/ 5% all around and nothing gets effected whatsoever. If anything having the darker tinted windshield increases the quality of The HUD. It's a lot more clear

...except the ability to see out at night. That's really dark. You'd get pulled over constantly where I live with tints like that.

You'd be amazed not that dark. I have 20% windshield/5% on my truck clear as day. Not hard at all. That sucks, CO doesn't really care all that much about it

Maybe the newer tints are just that much clearer or my eyes are bad. If my memory serves me (it was a long time ago) I had 12 or 15% in my mustang in high school and I would have to roll the windows down to backup if I wasn't in a well lit parking lot.

It's still very dark. I do 50% on all my windshields and it's very dark on dimly lit roads, not so bad in the city. I won't do anymore though.

No, I run 50% and they cut around the mirror which houses the camera for the features.

Windows - 15%
Windshield - 60%

Went with the Llumar Clear Air 60% on the windshield which has a bluish tint. Perfect all day and night. Ceramic keeps the temps cool during the summer and night time driving is near stock.
