Change your control arms

Just do it. I didn’t realize how bad the ball joints were until I removed the original control arms. Car drives like new again. 😁

Do you know if the Competition arms and non comp arms are the same as a matter of interest.

These are the Turner monoballs. They look great. I can see you ordered the pre-assembled option that comes around $1100.

Quick question, if you ordered the bearings, what does it take to fit them yourself in the old control arms? Because the price different is quite significant. The bearings cost $350.

Very very interested in these man.

I did not buy the preassmbled arms. It was cheaper to buy the monoballs and the arms separately for me since I’m a dealership employee.
To install them, you’d need a 20 ton press and the appropriate pressing tools. I’d advise against installing the monoballs in old control arms since the ball joints in your thrust arms are probably already smoked.

Guys, I replaced my control arms at 80k miles and it was an immediate night and day experience. It was definitely a brand new car feeling and at high speeds, the car felt planted and steering was precise. Highly suggest.

Mine feels planted. Any other symptoms? Improperly worn tires or anything?

I have a slight knock in my front suspension area when I go over speed bumps or uneven public garage entrances.
Would that be my control arms needing service?

Best way is to get it checked by an indy if not dealer, the bottom arms on these take the worst pounding.

Indeed you need to keep a sharp eye for holes in the roads, a bad one may wrench a control arm and wreck a wheel and tyre.

Does the monoballs make the car feel tighter? As in a bit harsher than stock since they are a firmer, denser material designed for less give? Less deformation under loads? These are upgrades from oem if you want a firmer, more dialed in suspension, no?

I've been thinking about doing my lowers. Probably will this fall when I should hit ~60k. As a bonus it would get me a firmer bushing as they changed the rubber for cars produced March 2013 on, which mine was before.

Would be curious to know how many miles you had on the originals.

If there are no clunks and it still feels good on the S/Sport setting then I don't think it's worth it. Mine's a Jan '13 and still feels plenty tight round the turns with that welcome comfort in the city when I switch over.

You don’t feel them at all. Possibly harsher over speed bumps but they eliminate deflection of the thrust arm thus keeping the alignment more precise. Plus they will outlast the factory bushings.

I thought the same thing till I put my car on my lift and work and checked the ball joint deflection with tools. That’s when I saw the ball joints were smoked. You’re use to how your car drives, so until you replace them you wont notice how wore out they are. My experience says ~60k miles of normal use or 40k miles on rougher roads and it’s time to replace them.

All cars over 3 years old over here have to have a yearly roadworthiness inspection every year after that and the tester checks all the suspension arms and steering joints, knuckles etc for any play or splits.

Warranty just covered replacement of both mine at 57000 miles. Only driven home from the dealership, so not really far enough to tell what difference it has made at the moment.

Was identified as part of general look round during brake fluid change. Oh, and a broken spring (not warranty but replaced both) and discs and pads all around.

Suffice it to say, bank account is severely depleted......

I went with the dinan bushings and to make sure you guys aren't scared away, I was able to remove the old ones from the control arms with my smaller 3/8" impact and a press tool.

Which dealership was it that identified that they were knackered on yours? Because I'm having a stand up fight with Sytners in Coventry about this at the moment......
