Looong time, but I'm back
Hello Internet people:
I just purchased a '15 Competition package. White with red, not sure of the correct names yet. Picking it up later today as I wanted some things done to it before I take it off the lot. 4th M5, first F10 so looking forward to a steep learning curve to a familiar platform. Great to be back. To the owners in the DC area, count me in as of now. Thank you all.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts comparing e39, e60, and f10. I kept my e39. Hope you enjoy the f10!

About comparing the 3 models; I'm expecting big things out of the f10.
I liked the e39 a lot, engine was a breeze to work on, as you know, everything is long since outdated. Liked the lack of electronics, to a point, had to do a bluetooth retrofit. Made me get involved in the driving, you definitely had to know what you are doing, easy to get it wrong in a turn. Main reason I got rid out it was my apprehension about wear and tear on aging platform, parts are become scarcer, getting more expensive. True, driving it was fun, but I was too paranoid. Not too much to say about the e60. The star of the show is also it's weakest link; the V10. The body lines felt too bland. The E39 looks mean, the E60 not so much. I will say though, the noise coming out the exhaust was addictive. But working on it, it felt like BMW lost its way a bit on this platform. Never took it to the track, wanted to, but never got around to it. Also left me wanting a bit more inside the cabin. Seems like the f10 improved on the things the E60 left me wanting. Interior seems elegant to me, BMW went back to v8, tried and improved engine, I pretend like the hot vee is not there. Not planning on tracking the f10, never trusted a turbo engine on track, you spend a lot chasing heat soak I think. But so far, it feels like a great car for nice, long, winding roads. What is your take on the f10?
