In the first attack, a 28-year-old man returned to his parked, white 2015 BMW M5 in the 700 block of North Hudson Street just before 9:45 p.m. Thursday and was confronted by a man who got out of a black Dodge Challenger holding a handgun, police said in a media notification. When the attacker demanded the car owner’s keys and the car owner refused, the man shot once in the air and the man gave up his keys.

The attacker got into the BMW and the owner, who’s from the southwest suburbs, ran off, but the attacker wasn’t able to start it, so he took off in the Challenger, possibly driven by a second person. The BMW M5 can be a manual transmission car.
