Big problems??

Big problems? Just started the car there for the first time in 3 days , noticed the car idling iratically and the exhaust note was totally different sounded like a blown exhaust, I gave it a little throttle and the exhaust sounded terrible and there was a pop / bang from the exhaust.
I shut the car down immediately. Must have been idling for no more than 30 seconds.
I did smell strong fuel from the back of the car
No warnings on dash.
Plenty oil, plenty coolant.
Car was absolutely fine when I parked it up 3 days ago.
Too dark and late now so will need to investigate tomorrow, but I'm scarred to start it back up, I will get my partner to start it whilst the hood is up so I can quickly listen for knocks ,

But with the irattic idling? Miss fire? Or a cyclinder not firing ? Would that not flag up on dash? There no wanting or engine lights at all.

Thoughts anyone?

Misfires, whether caused by spark plug, coil, or injector, often don't bring on any warning lights or log any fault codes.

Is the car tuned at all? What mileage is on the plugs? And coils?

No totally standard car, car has 59k on the clock I have owned it for 5months so no sure of the age of spark plugs etc. Would this need a recovery truck to take to garage?

I would have it towed to a shop, sounds like an injector stuck open.

You'll probably be fine to drive on the truck.

To put it in neutral you need a mechanic to get under the car and do it, which might be too much work imo.

*Update* started the car this morning and had a good listen under the bonnet, weird thing is the problem has totally cleared. Absolutely fine and normal today. I drove it a few miles and all seems fine. I am still going to take it to the garage tomorrow morning to have it put on diagnostic check, and to see if they can carry out any other checks on the coil packs and perhaps pull the spark plugs for a look.
So weird but alittle relieved, pointing towards dodgy coil pack I reckon .
