Looks like they are. I don't remember exactly but I think I paid around 1350 for comprehensive with 250 excess. It is a 2014 with 46k on the clock at the time.

I read somewhere else as well that it increases significantly once you hit 60k. Maybe I will be able to squeeze one more renewal before that happens

Having said that I am not sure with BM3 stage 1 running what will happen if it comes to a claim, lol.
Just take it off before it goes to the dealer
That's the plan but they do have a way of finding out if you tinkered with the ECU. Not that they do it every time but if they want to they can.
But I will make sure I remove all the proofs whenever I am within 100y of my local dealer

I wouldn’t not post on a public forum about mods

Warranty companies and insurance companies do check in the event of a major claim

I don't understand why everyone else's quotes are so low. Mine is a 2014 with 37k (at the time I got a quote) and it was more than double that. What am I doing wrong?

No, it hasn't always had a BMW warranty.

Yours ought clearly to be a lot cheaper than mine but RichDM5 said that his was "£793 with £250 excess. 2014 F10 M5 23k on clock" and 23k vs 37k isn't a big difference. I cannot remember how much my quote was exactly but it was more than £1,500 pa.

If the car goes out of warranty and then back in again they definitely charge more

I noticed, the first year and when you ask for a quote from the site its in the £1,200 range. The renewal, importance being on renewal letter, was £793.

It seems they screw you the first time you take it out.

In this case, so much more that I bought a warranty from WarrantyWise instead. The dealer spoke highly of them and chose them over a cheaper option even for the 6 months of the warranty they paid for themselves. The main issue with the warranty I have is that although it covers almost everything, the maximum payout is £5k. If my engine blows, that isn't going to go very far.

Ultimately, there is a balance to be struck. The more comprehensive the warranty the lower the risk but the cost may be so high that it's just not worth it.

So for me £840 Fully Comprehensive with BMW that includes roadside assistance is a great price

Not an M5, but I noticed on my high mileage X5 I did the online BMW quote it was stating £1800 for a year (or £185 a month) with the £250 excess option

https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Product/Index

My car is currently under AUC warranty as I only just got it. I hope you're right that when the letter eventually comes at the end of the first year of my ownership that it'll be well below what the site is telling me today! Somehting tells me it wont be any lower than the site currently reports though.

Went with warrenty direct instead.

Warranty direct didn't pay out for someone on pistonheads in fact they went out of their way to avoid it. Have a google. Probably not worth the paper it's written on.

You can always call them up if it isn't and discuss a lower price rather than going by a standard site estimate or letter.

Warrenty direct was £40/month for a year, covered 3yrs. Basic plan. Uncapped labour rate. They do several add on's. I wonder what BMW cover compared to them?

Does anyone have any experience with warrenty direct?

They have a BMW dealer near me that they recommend and I have spoken to that dealer who say they do afew jobs with warrenty direct. They also deal with Warrenty Direct themselves which cuts me out as middle man.

£40 per month is a more reasonable quote that won't break the bank and with the uncapped labour rate, may go for that myself.

Agreed, reasonably priced quote.

Just worries me they wont cover anything when I need it.

Seems cheap when you consider how big the bills can be with M cars.

I'm nearly on 35k and just one claim made in it's life for failed a/c condenser when warranty was in force for the six months I had included in the sale.
