Can the B&O amplifier on a 2013 M5 be replaced?

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to simply replace the B&O amplifier with another one purchased from ebay. I am having issues with my sound system turning it's self off 3-5 seconds after the car is on.

The dealer said they would need to replace the entire amplifier which was around $3,000, plus another 1000 in labor and that I cant just use a used one because it needs to be programmed (despite being the same model?).

On a side note, has anyone had same issue as me? The sound works perfectly fine when the car is on stand by (engine off), but as soon as I turn the engine on, the sound cuts out after 3-5 seconds and it says "Warning no tones".

As long as the part numbers match it should be fine. Coding may be needed but I don't think so.

Yes you can utilize a used one.

Yes it should be programmed and encoded.

No it does not NEED to be programmed and encoded.

$1000 to install and program is insane, it takes the better part of 30 minutes tops to exchange the amplifiers and programming/encoding is usually billed out around an hour. ISTA/P is more or less a unattended process. Start it and come back later.

Easy to remove and replace - you can find used ones for $500-$600

Sounds like a control issue rather than the among it works on standby. Worth paying a good auto electrician to look at it. Could be a simple fix where the dealer will just go straight to replacement parts.
