Jalopnik: Spying on Employees, Screwing Buyers: What Went Wrong at One of America's

...Biggest Euro Parts Companies

Always thought ECS was a small company run by a couple of guys. Also didn't know they bought up the other BMW part retailers mentioned.

Shame, love their site. Really helps to confirm what a part looks like, and I have never had a problem when I have bought parts.

This is old news. The article is dated 8/31/18 so it’s almost a year old, lol.

If you've shopped with them, and it:

1. Comes intact
2. You receive the correct part.

Consider yourself lucky and play the lottery

This is the corporate world for ya. I've been through two buyouts and the companies come in, say everything is going be OK and not to worry and a month later people are getting laid off. And it continues for as long as you let it before you realize you should stop wasting your time and just jump ship. What's left is a skeleton of was once a great company and group of people sinking slowly like the titanic.

They have sucked for a long time. There is even a Facebook page about it with more than 8000 members. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1969390720044815/

I always ordered from Blunttech or GutenParts.

I used ECS for my radiator. It was not a pretty part. I'm sticking with Tischer BMW. Jason and Evan have been there a long time now. Mike and Jim before that. Good prices and great service.

OK, and when does the news come out about Jalopnik being shitty? Good companies survive but by the grace of god.

I had no idea ECS made those acquisitions. Sounds like yet another example of clueless individuals making their way into leadership of a company. No concept of business operations or management, but a lot of degrees I'm sure. Seems to be happening a lot lately.

I’ve probably had ~20 orders from ECS over the years, including a set of OEM sun shades on their way to me right now, and I’ve never had a problem

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with ECS. I ordered the $1500 Performance V2 steering wheel that someone stole after it showed signed & delivered. ECS sent me another one after Fedex investigation completed.

The only complaint I have is one order was held up for a few weeks because cabin air filters were back ordered. I really needed the other items for a brake job and after I called them, they removed the backorder items and shipped same day.

Nothing but love for ECS, sorry to those that have had bad experiences.

I to go with Jason/Evan at Tischer for OEM BMW parts. You are right they are hard to beat when it comes to price/service. I’ve also had great service/prices from Justin at Auto Talent for aftermarket parts/mods. Between those two and IND occasionally I’m set with my parts needs.

I’ve only dealt with ECS a couple of times. Both times they were way over priced compared to the competition and didn’t seem particularly in the mood to help with anything. So vote with your wallet.

I lived in Maryland for 40 years or so. I worked near BMW of Silver Spring (Tischer it was called back then). My wife's Z3 we bought there in 1997. Jim and Mike would give us local walk-in Bimmerheads a 20% discount even without a BMWCCA membership (this was the mid 1990's). They were great guys, just as brothers Evan and Jason are.

Have a friend who lives in Ohio and worked for them--totally hated the company. However, I don't think most people read the article to the end--it seems that they are under a new CEO and new management and a lot of things were addressed at the time of the article. So, I hope for the sake of the employees and buyers they are improving.

This is so surprising to me. I order from them all the time, literally every month or so and have never had even one issue. My packages usually arrive with in 3-4 days after ordering. Guess I'll have to look in to other options to play it safe.

I originally posted the article not b/c of the bad things they said about ECS but more b/c I was shocked that they owned some well established BMW retailers and now BavAuto too!

Beginning to sound a bit shady by not just shutting down the other names and redirecting and rebranding to ECS.

Not really. They are taking advantage of the brand awareness and reputation of the companies they purchased, and this brand awareness is part of what they are purchasing. This is very common.

I get that but once everyone knows they are the real owners then what's the point. For example, I might be incline to buy say a racing related component from Turner b/c I'd expect them have qualified opinion based on their racing experience. If I'm just getting redirected to the ECS sales line then IMHO the value of that brand is lost and I'll do my own research and shop on price.
