M5 purchase
I’m currently looking for a M5. Not new to BMW had various in the past and have just sold my 650 individual.
A couple of questions. I understand that the LCI model is the better car to go for and that they started in 2013. Am I right in thinking that an LCI car has the better looking steering wheel? Also am I right in thinking the the TU engine is in the LCI? Many thanks in advance for any information. |

No yes and yes. Seriously though you can buy an '11 and be happy with it. Buying a '14 on is no guarantee that the engine will last longer.
It's only in US that the '13 years onwards started selling. |

I bought a 2016 LCI model with 28k on the clock thinking it would be more reliable. I was wrong. It's spent more time running crap than it has running good. Had a waste gate fail, injector fail, coils fail, comfort access handle fail. Car has had al the above fixed, new MAF's, Lambda's, plugs etc and now I'm chasing another misfire issue, this time only at very high rpms but proving impossible to solve this far. Other than that I absolutely love it!

Touching wood...
I’ve checked the detail of my ‘13, apart from the door handle and tyre valve last year there hasn’t been anything other than regular service and oil. That’s pretty impressive for a 500bhp+ car. I guess it’s how they are used. Full on...will take its toll (especially if you tune)....normal driving its hugely over engineered. |
