Charge Pipe Leaking?

Hi M5 Folks,

I have a 13 m6 with 42k miles. I noticed that I might have a boost/charge pipe leak. I have posted in the m6 forum, but did not get any comments. So, I believe that you guys might have experienced this issue before, and could give me some help.

I have attached the picture below.

So, my question is that since this is a boost/charge pipe, why does it have oil/coolant residue?

Do I need to replace something in the intercooler other than the pipe?

Any comment would help! Thanks, and have a great weekend![IMG][/IMG]

At first glance I'd say it's an internal leak from intercooler. You'll have to remove pipe and see what it is, check the reservoir coolant level for the intercoolers which is the one next to the red topped plus battery charging point.

Thanks for your reply, that helps me a lot! I just checked my coolant reservoir that near the the charging point, and it is even a little bit above the maximum. I have never add the coolant before.

I also checked out many other BMW models' forum, and they said it might be the oil blow by (especially turbo cars), which a small amount of oil residue is acceptable. So, I believe I might only need to replace the O rings in the charge pipe.

Again, thanks a lot for your information and have a great day!

Had the same problem(23k miles only) and easily solved it

Thats oil coming from PCV to intake and its kinda normal for these engines

Did you resolve this?

A t-bolt clamp would be stronger, but looking at the picture, i would think you just need to tighten the clamp not replace it. Also may want to pull the coupling off to inspect it. More likely the coupling has a slight tear.

I been looking to change out the lower intercooler charge and boost pipes any one know any good websites for that. It’s harder to find then I thought it would be they get directing me to the air intake system and up intercoolers.

OEM clamps cant really be tightened as they're one use type. I too have some residue and gonna change all clamps to see if this helps.

There are kits just about everywhere including ebay and amazon. Really what you want is make sure they have good amounts of reviews and good clamp. RK Titanium has a nice kit and it's not too pricey plus different looks that typical.

I have a similar issues,

When I park my car I noticed sometimes it leaks small mounts of oil (seen on pic)

Is this normal?

Doesn't do it all the time.
