I got him down to $44k just via texting. Besides the price, anything else about the car?

It's a nice car... Just have BMW do a pre-purchase inspection, buy a maintenance package through BMW, and get a warranty if you want one. Should be good to go.

Check out that spec when you have moment. Best deal I can find.

I agree with Lmaiuri.... Get a good PPI done and purchase an extended warranty through BMW if the car is still under its original BMW warranty or go independent.

Like others stated, I would stay away from a 1st year production and try to get a LCI with Comp Pack.

You really need to go check out the car in person, you might feel differently when you find flaws here and there (depending on how anal you are). If it's time for brakes/tires/oil change, I would use that as a bargaining tool. PPI is a must.

OP: Having just gone through this exercise -- bought a 2013 last week -- I can say that if you're will to be flexible on mileage, you can save a lot of money.

I found many M5s with 45k-70k mileage that were all in the mid-to-low $30k range, asking. And prices from dealers seem to drop in $1k increments with regularity.

I probably looked at (online, not in person) 50+ cars in the past 2 months. Not one was at a BMW dealership. The majority are at indy dealers. I found that the cars from private sellers aren't well-prepped, detailed, or inspected.

I also found that some of the better examples were last purchased at auction by a dealer who knew what he/she had and what kind of buyer the car would appeal to.

The best deals by far were on eBay. Once you're funded and ready to buy, set up a search for model year on eBay and see what happens. I saw a couple of 50k-mile M5s (with Exec, Driver Ass't, and B&O) go for $30-$31k.

I also had a couple key factors beyond option packages -- brakes and tires. I was a PITA and asked dealers to give me depths on tires and thicknesses on pads instead of just accepting their opinion that the "brakes are good!"

Good luck.

Thank you for your responses everyone. I'll pass on '13. I found this '14 with 50k miles with COMP package (https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...4838/overview/). Is there anything that I should look for when I go to look at it? I'm really interested in this one and might fly out this weekend. Any negatives for comp package?

Ickdeep I'm new to the forum and am also looking to upgrade from my M3 to an M5. Was looking at your latest car and thought I'd mention it has the ceramic brakes... I'd find out the condition of those, as it can be a costly item to get serviced.

I'm hoping to grab a good deal on a 14' comp after the new year

I think I'm going to go check this one out next weekend: I'm pretty sure it's comp package. Priced a little bit imo

That looks like a good buy with loads of goodies on it like the b and o,I wouldn't say no but do the usual checks and give the motor a good run not just 'round the block.

My suggestion is start the car, turn on the a/c, do a visual inspection while the car is on. Next get inside turn the wheel all the way in both directions and listen to any noises coming from the car. After that have a salesperson drive the car on a parking lot very slowly (your walking pace). Have that person turn the steering all the way left and right while you should listen to noises. Once it’s this test is completed, drive the car over speed bumps at 2-3 mph, listen for a hallowed sounds. Thereafter, take it for a spirited drive. Don’t forget to do a few hard pulls.
