Also upgraded plugs and went up two gaps. No DTM anymore.

I just bought my 2014 M5 I had the same issue. Took it to the local BMW dealer and they changed the injectors and spark plugs from 3 cylinders on factory recall for free. DTM gone. She drives like a champ now.

Is there a recall for injectors on our M5?

Yes there is. I believe it's until 2024. But BMW will only replace the injectors that have failed at that particular time. As per the local dealer.

Hey guys, I recently put catless downpipes on my car and it was driving fine for a few days and one day I was driving it and I got on the gas a bit and once shifting into 2nd gear at about 5000 rpms it went into limp mode and I thought it was a misfire or spark plug issue, but come to find out the spark plugs and coils did not come up on the code I received U0100 - Drivetrain Malfunction - Lost Communication With ECM /PCM "A"... if I stop and start the car and drive it normally and only get on it a little the car dives with no issues, the moment I get on it I get this error and the car goes into limp mode and it acts like there is a misfire, but in my opinion if it was a coil or plug issue I should be experiencing this issue no matter how many times I turn the car off and on... any ideas or assistance here?

Drawing more gas with c/l/d/pipes so cutting out. Put the cats back on it makes no difference to hp.

Try to reseat your DME connectors and make sure they all tightly seated. Make sure nothing is loose, ground wires on each side of the DME nice and tight too.

Catless DP's and a Tune. No such occurrence so far (Knock on wood), have had the car about 4 months and almost 9k miles. Only happened to me one time while cruising at highway speeds, not under hard acceleration and was in comfort mode. Car randomly bucked like a misfire and immediately went back to normal. Code was logged but never went live. Codes were for drivetrain malfunction and HPFP. Cleared and has never happened since.

Okay, I did make sure the DME plugs were all tight, I will say that the ground plugs are a good idea as when I first put on the downpipes and I was going to do a test turn on we forgot to put the grounds on and it wouldnt start, after immediate inspection of the engine bay we realized we missed that and once we put them on everything was fine.... and like I said I ran it for days with no issues until recently when jumping on it. I will go into the engine bay and check all the connections again. Thanks.

That is great... yes I have a close friend that has only catless downpipes and he has the exact same set up as me except the massive cold air intake (from Project Gamma), which routes the filters behind the kidneys but other than that I dont have anything different than him engine wise and he has put 5k miles on his car with no issues. I do want to change the plugs and coils before I install the tune, you would agree with that, correct?

Oh, I also recently disconnected the battery for 30 min and turned it back on and I topped off the tank and added some seafoam in the gas tank to clean the system a bit and I jumped on it pretty good and it hasnt happened again, but I drove it a bunch yesterday and as long as you dont go past 5000 rpms it seems to run perfect, I just dont get why it would do that under more load, its like nothing else is changing...

Okay that is an interesting take... so you suggest reverting back to the cats? It has given me a substantial HP gain though, I should have picked up between 50-55hp, per the forums and the other owner experiences so you are saying the air to fuel ratios may be giving it the issue, correct? Do you think when I install the tune it may take care of the issue if I tune it accordingly?

Install the tune in line with the c/l downpipes and your fuel/air ratios will be matched to what is needed but remembering ''more power'' probably won't mean quicker 0-60 times because of broken traction but 30-70 times should be better.

That is what many of us are thinking that the tune may help with the ratios for sure.

Yes I know these cars aren't great from 0-60 anyway in my experience unless you have driven the F90 Competition which I almost bought before purchasing this car, but as you said the 30,40, 50 to 120 is what is amazing and most noticeable.

Thanks...

Mine is bm3 stage 2 and had this on hard acceleration. Turned out to be a coil pack.
In standard form it was fine..

Yes exactly, I am going to change all the plugs to the laser iridium NGK plugs and the good bosh coils and this should take care of the issue.

Thanks,

KJ

When/if you get the tune put in, get the plugs with recommended gap with what the tune guys advize.

Okay, I will do that but I dont think I should gap them as low as .20, as I dont have meth injection, I think I will split the difference do you agree?

Sounds good to me but again take final advice from those tune guys, changing the plugs on these is fiddly.
