Independent vs Dealers - Car up keep & maintenance

Do you guys use offices BMW dealers or an Independent garage to looking after your car?
Barring the extra uplift in costs wouldn't a specialist independent be more reliable and knowledgable?

I always use BMW main dealer and negotiate on prices, I always ask for a Master Tech to do the work and so far no complaints. I prefer Main Dealer as I have a BMW Warranty and have found its easier to get claims passed etc when you have a relationship with a dealer.

The key is to get a good relationship with the main dealer.
Due to the turnaround they never seem to be very amicable.

I would find another Main Dealer if you are not happy or speak with the Head of Service and explain your requirements

Always BMW dealer and for MOT. I have one not far which I use now and like the b/fluid I had done last negotiate for a good price showing the price on a previous invoice if they quote a lot.
Having BMW service history I think is a must for these and apart from tyres and brakes, having an up to date history on servicing is a plus than from an independent.

I think my last major service was 590 at the dealer, which felt pretty cheap.

I definitely felt like the M car got VIP treatment from the technicians, lots of detail in the phone call and everything immaculate.

I have brake pads coming up and I’m in two minds, it’s not really a very complicated job and there’s a really respected BMW specialist near me.

If it was pads I would go anywhere that knew BMWs well but they are still not cheap, BMW should always negotiate on price
