Lease Return Tire Brand
I only have 5/32" tread depth left on my Michellin and about 8 months left on my lease. I know that BMW lease return requires 4/32 tread depth or a penalty will be assessed. Rather than spending top dollars for another set of Michellin or Pirelli, I see that Kumho Esta PS91 is available for the same spec and dimension for 40% less.
Does anyone know whether BMWFS cares about the tire brand as long as the dimension and spec are the same. I have the 20" OEM wheel. Thanks. |

Tires just need to meet the OEM size and be of the same spec on speed and load rating and be 4/32 or better on tread and all of the same type. For instance, you can't return a car with Pirellis on the front and Michelins on the back.

I would call your dealer and ask. I vaguely recall the tires need to be of comparable quality, or may even need the BMW approved star on them. Better to make the call and be certain rather than get dinged twice for new tires.

I've seen conflicting info on the BMW star rating. I know a CPO has to have BMW approved tires which are noted by the star but I could not find confirmation of this for lease turn it.
I agree it is important to have right info and I am open to correction on this and clarification. |

When I log into My BMW (my car is leased) and go under FAQ and then under leases this is what I find regarding tires:
"If you replace the tires, lease end charges will be assessed for each tire that is not of equal size, quality, and speed rating as your original tires. (You can find the speed rating label on the inside of the vehicle’s door jam.) Also, acceptable wear is a minimum of 4/32 of an inch of depth from the finish tread. Your Ding-O-Meter can help you to identify whether or not your tire falls within our guidelines. Your BMW Center will be able to provide you with a final, more precise measurement using a tire tread depth gauge. Tires with cuts or gouges will result in additional lease end charges. Please note: If your vehicle originally came equipped with run-flat tires, then your vehicle must be returned with run-flat tires. Otherwise you will be charged for new tires." |

Thanks for the all comments on this topic. I think I am going to stick with Pirelli or Michellin as replacement.
Does anyone know what is the tire wear penalty? I am a borderline case so perhaps just roll the dice. |

Bring car back with oem pss tires It doesnt matter if tire has 20 matches in them as long as theyre pas tires. 4/32 theyll take the tire below thaf youll be forced to buy brand new ones |

I turned in my old M6 on lease with Kumhos or something on it and was not charged for anything. Sorry, there isn't a huge difference in tire brands these days like there used to be......Kumho makes pretty good tires.

Since Pirellis also are OEM they could be used as well if one has to use OEM tires on lease return.
