Help with BM3 drive train malfunction
Hey everyone,
I have a 2014 m5 comp with 57k. I recently did project gamma downpipes and intakes along with bm3. I mapped the car to Ots stage 2. Along with that I did Brisk silver 1 step colder plugs gapped to .23 and Bavarian auto sport coil packs both from Ecs tuning. Parts have been on the for about a month now and it was running fine up until 2 days ago. When it started to give me drivetrain malfunction and go into limp mode but no check engine light. Now at any point when I get past 50% throttle it goes into limp mode but regular driving while cruising no issues. As far as the tune goes I had made small configuration changes the after first installing it and made max boost pressure 14 psi with torque reduction in gears 1-3 20% 10% 5% due to not having any traction. As I got more comfortable with the car in its new way I upped the boost to 16psi max and torque reduction in gears 1-2 10% 5% and went to do a data log. As soon as I started my data log from second gear and got into 3rd the car it went into limp mode and deleted all of my m drive setting. Within a minute it gave me an engine temp to hit even though my temp gauge was only a quarter way up where it has always stayed. Thinking maybe it was some sort of weird occurrence I let the car sit for a moment and then tried one more pull to which it went into limp mode again. Shit the car off and turned on and drivetrain malfunction light is gone. I decided to try the stage 1 ots map and see if I'd have the same issues. And behold as soon as I got on throttle again limp mode with drivetrain malfunction but no check engine light. I am attaching the link to my data log where it first happened and the screenshots of my map configuration. I have no misfire issues that I know of unless at the very top end is when it's starting to misfire and or maybe my clutch may be slipping as soon as I'm on throttle. Any help would be greatly appreciated in which direction is to go in. https://www.bootmod3.net/log?id=62fc...729b2acbc99841 |

So first get rid of the brisk plugs and get some NGK’s. Second the max boost limit doesn’t change the boost but only changes the boost target. I have no idea why that feature it’s even there. All that other weird stuff with loosing your setting sounds like a loose connection or bad battery. It’s easy to mess up the the connections at the dme when installing plugs. Make sure the ground next to dme is tight. I’d do those things and then test on stage 1 and see what happens.

I like to gap to .022. Unless you’re running custom tunes with 22+ psi you should be good in that .022-.024 range.

gapped NGKs to 0.022" here, per dzenin @pft, for over 5K miles w/ no issues.
