220 mph (320 km/h) vs 93 mph (150 km/h). This doesn't make sense. The idiot was driving the M5. I wasn't clear... I meant that what's expected by the driver that's overtaking, is that the driver coming behind let him do. And that became the habit on the road. Can you confirm that ? |

Don't forget the the recommended speed on the unrestricted Autobahn is 130KPH. If you are going faster than 130KPH, and have an accident, I am told that it becomes a totally different investigation.
It is nice to see the big saloon protect its occupants. RIP hund. IMO, you can't blame the driver in the left lane for an idiot in the right land changing lanes in front of him/her. These douche-bags in the slow lane that believe that they must jump right to pass a truck while there is a car fast approaching at 150MPH drive me crazy. The dang truck drivers do it to, in order to gain 2KPH over the other truck that they are passing make me want to ! On the Autobahn you either lead, follow, or GTFOOTW! |

The best solution is to make harder to get drivers license, undergo driving test every 5 years to prevent bad habits in driving. Accident happens not because of high speed, but because of people who don't know what they are doing on the road. THEY ARE OPERATING HEAVY MACHINERY not just walking along sidewalk. They should be ready that something may go wrong and act accordingly. Idiots, that don't signal lane changing, don't check their mirrors, who accelerating on yellow light through intersection, etc - drive me crazy. They should implement more quality training of drivers not lowering speed limits. The lower the limit, more idiots will just survive accidents but it won't prevent them from happening. |

This Thread will give some locations in the GTA as well as dates ---> Click here to check it out My first drivers licence is from Germany (car and motorcycle) in Germany they are very strict when it comes to qualifying for a drivers licence. I took the BMW drivers training, been driving for a very long time and know excactley what you mean by more training needed.

Fastest I ever drove was 245km/h, I would never drive this fast if I had a family member or anyone else in the car, it's not responsibility I would want to have.
It's one thing when I get adrenaline rush and take it over safe speeds on autobahn or anywhere else, it's another when your are responsible for safety of the passengers. Wish driver and passenger a fast recovery. |

what do you expect at 180mph
Legal or not, traveling at that speed is gambling with your life. I have taken a car to 160mph when I was much younger and I would never do it again on a public road. You approach cars and objects in seconds and when you pass a stationary object like a highway sign, it is so far from you once you look back into the mirror. On public roads anything can happen, animals could wander the road, cars cut in, etc but that is a risk you take going so fast. I would never do that speed with my kid or dog in my car. It is irresponsible as an adult and a parent to subject someone to that kind of danger. If your kid was riding in that car with that driver and died I am sure most people would not be blaming the other car. Even though high speeds are legal in Germany, you still need to use some common sense and drive defensively because you cannot control all the other factors around you. I do not feel sorry for this person or his family as they all knew what they were getting themselves into when traveling this fast. I'm just happy they did not injure an innocent person.

If you Ontario guys have never done it you have to take your M5 to Mosport near Bowmanville. There are lots of track days organized for Mosport and you should no trouble finding one. Very fast and a true test of the car's ability. You have no idea what your car is capable of until you track it. You also save money on speeding tickets because tracking helps to get it out of your system!

Life is short and precious. It's not because your car is capable of those speeds and because you're allowed to drive those speeds on the autobahn that you SHOULD.
Reckless and selfish. Especially with a passenger and a dog in the car plus your sons following you. |

Yes, I can confirm that You don't have to let them in but I'd say the mentality here is that in ~75% of the cases they will let you in.

Anyone have updates on the passengers?
Took a quick look at the thread... All I can say is, we have incredibly safe cars but we should all be careful out there. I'm kind of impressed at the number of people here that actually speed and enjoy it. I used to speed, I don't anymore because it's just not worth the risk on public streets. Pick a track, drive free, stay safe... I'm happy this way. This goes out to all my fellow bimmers... DRIVE SAFELY . |

To all bm owners be careful out there, these guys were extremely lucky you might not be, it looks like they rolled over etc but didnt seem to hit a tree or anything else, if they had it would have been over for all of them, father and sons racing! can you imagine the wife/mother when she found out what happened. Drive safe guys...speedy recovery to all
